The Sunday Thread. It's July 27, 2025

As a creature of habit, I check my regular web sites after I've made my coffee and updated my daily schedule. It appears I'm once again the first one to the site, so I feel honor bound to start the Sunday thread.

Like most of the U. S., and some other parts of the world I've checked, there's a bit of a heat wave going on. [Checking calendar], yep it's late July. The three operative words for this time of year are hazy, hot and humid. Temperatures around here have been in the 90s (about 35C for those who measure that way). Last night we had the loud thunderstorms that accompany such weather, but they haven't broken the back of the heat, yet. Today portends to be just like yesterday.

So, indoor activity is the order of the day. Church will be indoors, lunch will be indoors, the baseball game on TV will be indoors. There's a detectable pattern here.

I continue to work on the setlist for my showcase night in just over a week. I'll be practicing again today.

So, how is it where you are? Anything special going on?

The heatwave continues here also with temps in the 90s today with very high humidity. I spent two hours mowing/edging my lawn yesterday and my clothing was so soaked with sweat it looked like I had jumped in a lake with my clothes on.

I guess the club where we play our weekly Thursday evening jam session/open mic wants us to also start playing Sunday afternoons. It could prove to be a fun time and a pretty easy gig.

Quite warm here as well. Ran a ton of errands yesterday. Doing church from home today as I am still prepping for next weeks church service. Still not decided on a guitar. Need to create some licks as other than 1, nothing stands out in the originals. Going to look at a couple houses later as we?ve pretty much have given up finding land and building.

drizzly and mild today, high only 75 but if the clouds boil off that could change readily. We actually had two CONSECUTIVE Saturday nights without rain. In a row. First time in 153 years or it seems like that.

Went to see a band last night, by the guy who hosts the open mic jams. Turned out to be the same bunch of players I was hoping would be at the nonexistent jam last week. Good time was had.

I played guitar this week. *gasp* why, if I keep this nonsense up, I'll have calluses again.

Ay, ut, us new Englanduhs are enjoying some rain here today with cool temps in the low 70's. That's good. I don't feel bad about staying inside today and continuing to work on the set list for the band.

I have 35 of the 40 tunes together and I'm just going to refuse to learn the remaining 5. They do those songs "their own way." I have no interest in wasting rehearsal time to learn their aborted arrangements that just ruin the songs for everyone else in the audience except for their musician friends who get in for free, sip club sodas contributing nothing, and talk amongst themselves about how they would do it better. It's a disease. If you're playing for a crowd that expects to hear original material, do it and have fun. But don't take a good gig and ruin it for everyone else including the band. It's not that kind of gig.

The grass should be bushy and thick after the thorough dousing today making the mowing a bit slower, but at least it's healthy.

I'm continuing to sell off my gear and replace the several items gone with a very few, hand selected pieces. On the hunt for a short scale bass now that will actually balance on a strap. Short scale basses are a guarantee neck-dive experience. But there at least one out there. One of the Sire basses looks good. Cheap too!

Gianni B Sighting!

Yesterday we had a doubleheader, first show was in the afternoon for a music festival in an Upstate NY town. As I was approaching the stage I recognized the band on before us and it was my great pleasure to see Johhny up there. When we went up to play our set I found his band's printed setlist. I called him out from the stage and had him autograph it.

Johnny looks great and he's doing well.

Second show was more of a county fair feel with donkey's, goats and lots of John Deere tractors. I never saw a vintage JD diesel tractor use its pony motor to start the main motor before so that was totally cool to experience that. Outside show but we had a roof and fans so it wasn't too bad.

On to the next show!
