The Sunday Thread for June 22, 2025

It's now summer in every way, shape and form here in the northern hemisphere (the only one I know on here NOT from north of the equator is Sergio, and we haven't seen him in a while). Today, the expected high temperature will be 97F. Tomorrow we're supposed to break the 100F mark, so the "lazy, hazy days of summer" are upon us.

This week I drove to Pennsylvania on my annual trek to get decent fireworks for the 4th of July. State law prohibits selling anything more than sparkers and stupid little fountains, so one has to go out of state to get the real thing. It was a pleasant drive (about 90 minutes each way). Traffic was light, and now I don't have to sweat the last-minute shoppers.

I don't plan to try a run today. Twenty years ago I would have thought nothing about going out in the heat as long as I had a sweat towel and water bottle. I'm too old for that 5h!t now. So, after church I'll get some lunch and head into the relative cool of my home where baseball and guitars await me, and I'll spend my time out of the sun enjoying the day.

I hope everyone else does, too.

Wow, woke up to find 83 degrees on the outside thermometer at 6:00 o’clock this morning with absolutely clear blue skies. It should prove to be a hot, dry, beautiful day that I will spend in air conditioning no matter where I am today. It will start off with a cruise in the Corvette where my wife wants the top down, but I’m pretty sure, once she steps outside, it will be top up and air conditioning on.

Hope all have a great day.

Playing bass today. In between sets right now. After is a haircut and fill up with gas. Will probably do some development work to prepare for 2026 at work. Also start building a new role (with increase) for me at work. I am already doing more than my job description.

woke up to drizzle, going to get real warm. We won't see any triple digits except for the heat index. It's going to be very humid what with all the moisture in the ground. We've still barely gone more than 48 hours without any rain.

Construction is zipping along, not without snags, though. I'm wondering if anybody remembered to call the electrician?

My wife and I stopped at our favorite “watering hole” for breakfast and when we were leaving that place I noticed the temperature shown by the car’s system was 93 degrees. We took a little cruise along Lake Michigan and I noticed the temp had dropped to 68 degrees. Now, that’s natural air conditioning!

Busy day. New battery for the motorcycle. Finishing Touches on the ramp leading up to the shed. The bike now has a home. Went and played some music yesterday in a barn at approximately 90?. Felt really sluggish. The heat is affecting me more than I want to admit. It is never bothered me before, but now it is. Watched MotoGP from Italy yesterday. It was a great race. It still looks like the Ducati Cup Series, LOL, because they dominate the scene. Playing more bass today with a new group and it's going very well. It seems to be coming very naturally to me. Lots of fun!
