It's Sunday. May the Fouth Be With You

No matter how old I get I remain a slave to my circadian rhythms. We're halfway through Spring now, and it seems no matter when I turn off the light at night, I'm opening my eyes at around 5:30. I do find myself turning off the light earlier these days, around 10:30, but this past week saw me up until nearly midnight a couple of times, and still waking up when the "blue hour" fades.

So, it's been an uneventful week for me. I had my semi-annual HVAC check-up, and it passed without needing any repair or update. Other than that, it's been a terrifically nice week weatherwise, so I got out and got my steps in nearly every day. The April Showers held off, but now the rains are expected for the next four days, so I'll mostly be staying indoors reading, watching baseball, playing guitar and tinkering on the computer.

Speaking of which, I found and downloaded a COBOL compiler. I began my career in the tech field as a COBOL programmer, and was surprised to learn that despite the rumors to the contrary, COBOL is alive, well and being actively supported. There is even a 2023 standard. So, if I can just think of a use for it, I might go back to creating compiled programs rather than writing scripts and such. Being retired allows me to waste my time that way.

Today is May the 4th, which means tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. Enjoy them both. Unless you have other plans.

Wow, COBOL, I haven?t thought about that since my college days when I studied that along with PL1, Fortran, Assembler, etc. Ironically, I ended up writing RPG and Basic code in my programmer/analyst days.

The first week of playing our annual fund raiser is ?on the books? and a good week it was. The show, a sort of local Saturday Night Live, is very entertaining and a good amount of money has been raised. The cast and crew are great people to work with, and the band that we put together as ?the Pit Boys? are good guys to work with covering a real variety of music that keeps me musically active at nearly 80 years old. Another week of playing this show and then it?s back to playing the weekly jam session as a member of the host band.

Incidentally, the facility I played in this this week is where I played one of my first gigs as a sax player in a rock band 64 years ago.

Another beautiful cloudy day in the Shires.
One of my 3 porcupine yard pets was killed last week while crossing the road. Izzy was a good porcupine and is survived by Rueben and Spike.
Learning more songs today for an acoustic duo I've been playing/gigging in over the past few weeks. Always a good time.

Time to divert the rain culvert back to it's original course. It seems the endless parade of UPS, FedEx and Amazon trucks have compromised the rain flow and the 200 foot driveway is washing out. I just wish it didn't hurt these old hands so much to wield a shovel. Takes 3 or 4 days to recover.

Things are good in the hood and looking even brighter as we move on into summer!

Re: It's Sunday. May the Fouth Be With You

I've been making near daily trips to the post office and UPS shipping out items that I've sold. Nearly done with the first round of smaller stuff, time to dig up some more and list them. Sold things that made me sad to see go but in the long run it will be for the best. About to buy some new headlight bulbs for my car and hoping it helps in the candlepower wars. The struggle is real

got a rainy spell here as well, which is good because we are very dry. lawn is coming back to life, mowing will likely start if not this week surely next week.

Finally addressing an issue that will make things much easier to regulate the HVAC and should significantly enhance comfort levels year round.
