The Sunday Thread for a Quiet March 23, 2025

It's been so quiet here this week that I wonder if DNS servers have forgotten about the place. The last post here was on the 18th announcing the death of Jesse Colin Young. No one has even bothered to report the death of George Foreman. 'Course, I never heard Foreman play guitar. I do have one of his grills, however.

Spring is making its presence known. We're in that in-between time when some days are shirtsleeve weather and others are still bundle-up days. The evenings are still quite crisp, so I haven't put away my sweaters and jackets just yet.

Baseball's opening day was in Tokyo for two games, which makes me think the world continues to lose its collective mind. The terrestrial Opening Day is Thursday. I'm looking forward to it!

Last night I had dinner with my daughter and her family. I hadn't seen them for several weeks, so it was good getting together. I have a guitar for my granddaughter that I'm hoping to bestow upon her next weekend. Today is the usual: church, lunch, practice, get some exercise, and read. It reads very boring but I'm quite happily retired, and I have several busy weekends coming up, so I think I'll just enjoy this one.

I hope everyone else does, too!

Little more snow on the way today with temps in the upper 20's.
Finally moved in to a new place we're renting in a beautiful wooded area in the shires. 4 weeks of cleaning, shopping, scraping, scraping, spackling, sanding, painting, lugging and moving have come to an end and we're quite pleased.

My guitar collection of 23 guitars is now down to 10, and I sold a few amps as well. I did allow myself the luxury of adding a new Martin SC13E Special Burst to the group however as it suits the music I'm playing these days.

    Things are good.

Bass gigs this week. 1 to go yet. Some of the setlist called for the 5 string Dingwall so that was my go to. Lovely bass. Only takes about 2-3 minutes to reunite with its multi-scale layout.

Started on taxes yesterday. Still have more work to do on them and I?ll probably enlist the help of my best friend who?s a CPA. Things are a bit more complicated for TY 2024 as I received a K1 loss for 2023 that I didn?t get until Q3 2024.

Some more bass gigs lined up over the next couple weeks. Awaiting set lists. Hopefully I can use the squier CV50s Pbass as it hasn?t had stage time yet.

Today is some errands, fill up the truck, watch some March Maddness and F1.

a little brisk here but unsettled weather on tap for tomorrow, cool but drier for rest of week. Yep, way too early to put away cold weather stuff. I'm waiting until middle of April before I pull up the reflector stakes along the driveway and curbside in front of the mailbox. Not saying we can't get plowable snow after that day but even if we do it'll last a day or two, three at the most.

bought a 60-watt Weller soldering iron, a multimeter, leads with alligator clips for it. Finally got my ashtray bridge cover for the P bass. Found one set of pickups after moving everything two weeks ago. Moved my rolling work bench into the room to start the sorting process, labeling boxes and identifying stuff for sale. Nephew finally moved into the new room and we have our living room back.

Going to clean up the office today, get out a guitar and play for a while. Don't know how I'm going to watch the Red Sox this year, ESPN is their primary broadcaster and Comcast put that channel on their highest tier which we refuse to pay. I could live without it, but don't know about my brother. It's insane to pay over 280 dollars a month for cable and internet. Something is going to give.

Well I?ve got my eye on something. Jackson PC-1. Found a used one with modern appointments at less half the cost of new. May pull the trigger tomorrow. Will sell 1 or 2 to help fund.
Tax wise, largely got it sorted out. Need to understand the risk in claiming a cost I incurred. Will talk to my CPA/best friend tomorrow. It could be 3k refund or 35k refund. (The cost was a legal settlement for >75k)
