Epiphone Riviera P93

Back in 2019 I bought a Riviera P93, which arrived two days before I had to have hand surgery. I played it for about ten minutes acoustically and put it back in the case. Literally the day after surgery we had to move to our new home across the county. It was another 6 weeks before I had the OK to start using my hand again. When I finally got all my guitars unpacked and a music space setup, the first one I plugged in and played was the Riviera. I hadn't played in 6 weeks, I expected to be clumsy and slow, I was, but the guitar felt great. Shipping strings (Cleartone 10-46) Sweetwater's setup and it was great. I left it unaltered for the next month, more amazed every time I played it at the feel and tones coming out. After I set it up with 9-42 NYXLs it was perfect. I am a Les Paul, SG, Strat guy but I find myself using the Riviera more often.

I had several Epiphones. The last six string I bought was a Sheraton, unfortunately with bad neck dive. Aesthetically I hated the thick layers of poly.

Got an Epiphone bass lately. Great instrument. Poly goop less thick. It sounds fantastic.

I’m thinking of buying a Casino but want to make sure it’s not poly coatings with a little wood in it.

How is the Riviera in that way? It’s honestly the only thing holding me back, and I figure if the Riviera is ok, the Casino will be too .

That's good to hear. Maybe Epiphone is getting it together again. Over the years, I've owned serveral Epis. I've had great ones and terrible ones. The long scale SG type bass I got last year is a keeper. I had bought for someone who decided she didn't want it. I had a lefty nut put on it. It's not my go to, but when I want a sound close to the Gibson Ripper or Grabber...

I'm glad you like your Riviera--that was the first Epiphone I ever saw, and when I was 17, I thought they were among the coolest things I ever saw.

Epiphone has been improving their guitars a lot in the last few years (decades, already).

From time to time I drool over Casinos too, they're wonderful guitars and if it wasn't for their size i'd probably own and gig with one already.
