    Tele vs. Strat necks

I currently have a Tele and two Strats, all Squiers, the Tele being the most recent. I have an old hand injury that is causing me to prefer thinner necks. I'm noticing that the Tele neck has a very high shoulder and is wider at the nut. Can I swap out a Squier Strat neck for a Tele? I know they were not interchangeable in the past on old Fenders.

These Strat necks both have no shoulder.

    Thanks.

The heels of strat necks & tele necks are different, strats being rounded (or curved) & teles more flat (or square). Unless you have a router, a jig or template, & some woodworking skills, I'd take it to a local tech to have kind of thing done

Or buy a custom-made neck from Musikraft, USACG, etc. Such drastic transplants are not for the faint of heart nor those without the patience of Job.

As I recall, you can put a Strat neck on a Tele without modifications (there will be a gap), but a Tele neck onto a Strat requires modification. There’s no place for the non curved area of the Tele neck to go in a Strat’s neck pocket.

Thank you, gentlemen. The Tele neck is completely unfinished, so I might start by doing a bit of light sanding/steel wool on that shoulder, as it seems to only be on the top side of the neck. I sure don't recall my old '69 Tele feeling like this, but then back then, my hands were newer, too . . .

That would be a LOT of sanding to get it as curved as a Strat heel, just an fyi

    +1

Better to use a vertical milling machine.
