    Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin ?

Anybody own or demo one of these?

I can't find any locally and thought it might be a good guitar for post-war Chicago style stuff?

    They're about $700 online.

    Nice, nice guitars.
If they made, or if there was any rumor of a 2 p'up/cutaway version in the near future, I would have held off on getting the Casino I eventually bought.

I was on the prowl for a slim hollowbody for a while.
When they showed up at shop near me, I tried the Kingpin and really dug it. It's definitely a great choice for Charlie Christian/jump blues type stuff. The guitar can kind of have the effect of steering you in that direction!
The neck is a more modern profile, but not so much that it detracts from the overall vibe of the design.
Very competitively priced for a North American guitar too.

    Made from Canadian Wild Cherry!

Does that mean they play that funky music, eh?

Woah! That thing is beautiful! Thanks for giving me more things to spend money on..!
I tried a Radiator a while back, great little guitar, fitted into my collection of funky single coil guitars nicely but sold before I could get the cash together.

I don't own one, but I have designs on one! I've about worn out one at the local mom&pop shop. They are pretty killer for the low dough. A little on the bright end of the spectrum, but w/a few upgrades (bridge, p'up, electronics) it would make a great player.

They definitely aren't as fat sounding as an old ES-125 or 150.

This a little off track, but check this out!
It's the acoustic 5th Avenue with an old school clip-on p'up added.
    He's going all Hot Club.
    Pretty nice.

There's another guy (wildkattraynor ?) who added a neck-mounted mini HB to the acoustic 5th Ave, with nice results. He said, had he not jumped on the acoustic when it came out, he'd have went for the Kingpin.

    Yup. This one, I think:

I think the bridge on those is plastic or something. I'd bet a good ebony saddle would warm it up a bit.

    "Adjustable Tusq Bridge by Graphtech."

I wonder if the whole bridge is made of whatever "Tusq" is, or if it's just the saddle. Either way, it's a pretty significant piece of material, and easy to swap.

That's a looker to be sure, very nice, I've played a few Godin's around here, there's a dealer nto to far from me, always thought they were made nicely.

I've been waiting a long time to get my hands on one. Got two places that used to be dealers, one has since dropped them. The other says they can 'order me one'.

    Look what they've done now.

Fortunately, my Kay will fill that niche, once I get it fixed up. I've only got three projects ahead of it.

Re: Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin ?

I want to say I like the Joe Pass Epiphone better. The Joe pass is now made in Indonesia , and I do not think I would buy a guitar made in Indonesia.
I wished I would not have sold the old Joe Pass I has once for a few weeks. They say they can be fixed up to play and sound very good, and the one i had was Korean.
I might try to find another eventually and just totally trick it out.
It has that Super400/L5 big box Jazz Orchestra tone vibe to it.
The Godin looks as if its not as fancy, but built better. It doesn't seem to have that big thick Jazz voice.
I think the Godin is made more like the es175's?
Oh, wonder when Fender will join the Market?

    Do you mean, Coronado reissues?

Or maybe the Fender D'Aquisto Elites.

I've never played a Cornado, but I'd be willing to bet they weren't nearly as bad as people would have you believe. Aesthetics aside, those DeArmond/Dynasonic pickups were just the wrong pickups for the times

    I played a red one.
The vibrato was wacky, but the guitar was pretty cool.
