    The GReat Anerican Road Trip

My drummer & I might be tooling down from NH to Fla with a stop over in Pennsylvania and maybe VA. Anybody here in the line of fire and game to hook up, LOL? Looks like if it happens will be Thurs-Sat Aug 6-8.

Re: The GReat Anerican Road Trip

We are playing in Oxford Maine. We have a mini-festival up there every summer. Some years, like this one, it's more like a big party (last year we had some REAL talent up there).

Anyway, will be in and out of NH - MHT, Concord, Franconia. Will find out where in PA. SC is a long shot, that will likely be the big slog stretch - but maybe a beer/meal in SC. Where in SC r ya Cygnus?

We will be passing thru Columbia Sat 8/8 round lunchtime, as well as bedding down somewhere in the Allentown>Harrisburg corridor Thurs early eve 8/6...

Plan to spend the better part of Fri 8/7 bumming around Shenandoah area...

That's where Franklin the magnificent is - Myrtle. Too bad cause from what I hear Franklin really is quite the gitar slinger. Our bass player is a huge fan of his band.

Franklin has licks! Listen to the clips on his bandsite... Great stuff

August 7th we are heading north from FL to Nagshead NC. Will be staying outside of Savanah... will miss you all, but will send some positive thoughts out there sifting downstream from the ocean side of the Outer Banks!

Used to stay at the Sand Dollar a LONG time ago, crap at Pea Island, and ride pieces of cardboard down Kill Devil hill and watch the Hang gliders (as a 4-5-6 year old)

Re: The GReat Anerican Road Trip

I spent all of Saturday with my cell phone in hand.
Sitting on the curb in my black 50's style Fender logo t-shirt.
Right in front of Lizard's Thicket.
My car broke down, so walked the 2 miles up there and waited from noon until the police hauled me off for "loitering".
    What?
I was sipping off a twelve pack of PBR and smoking Philly Blunts! WTH....arg.
So after calling my wife she got a friend to bail me out of jail and I got a ride home to check my email.

    Just kidding.
Saturday was a great day-you missed out, Gris.

My Dad lives somewhere around your area, I'll come and terrorize you instead. Hope you like Anthrax!

Re: The GReat Anerican Road Trip

At the appointed time (Saturday mid afternoon) we were way behind schedule, standing on the summit of Hawksbill peak in Shenandoah park drinking cold ones. Took the route less travelled up (Appalachian Trail), saw a grouse, a bear (up close), some deer and a really cool, huge red-tailed hawk with a live snake in it's beak.

Sunday afternoon found us on top of Mount Mitchell, a veritable zoo of humanity, but a nice cool day nonetheless.

Hey man, those are my 'Steal Your Face' baggies. BTW, that pic was taken Friday before last, the first night of the gig, during the second solo on 'Sugaree.' I know because it's the only time I play way high all the way up. And I know it was Friday because when we did the tune again Saturday night, I went high on the third (or was it a long second) solo and it had just gotten dark and someone had changed the bulb nearest me from white to blue and I 'choked' and bailed out of the solo when I went way high. I always have to look at the fingerboard when I go way high (frets so close together up there) and I couldn't see where I was. Too bad, because everyone had really set the table for me and I can sometimes go off on that one. We got raided by a huge swat team both Friday and Saturday nights. I have a pic of that I need to post.

A swat team?!?! WTF? Why would they send a swat team, and why send one the second night? Did the bust anyone?

Long bizarre story; no one busted, just scared - they arrived midnight Friday just as we quit, but shut us down way early Saturday night at 10 p.m. 'OPD' stands for Oxford (Maine) Police Dept.

Re: The GReat Anerican Road Trip

wtf? where there a bunch of transplanted urbanites there or something? I can't imagine any real residents complaining about live music on a friday or saturday night.

I say this from experience. Starting 8 years ago, on the 40th b-day party for my friend's wife, we had a jam session that has evolved into a yearly gathering of sizeable proportions. 2 years ago, new neighbors built across the street. Everybody in the area (very very rural, btw 'yards' out here tend to average 20+ acres) attends the party, as it is an excellent low-key, family-oriented fun thing to do. Well, newbies across the street apparently thought they were still in suburban NJ or NY, or wherever they came from. Called the police on us at 8 PM. On a saturday night. Last year, we tried to work something out with them. So it was only 10 PM this time when the cops came.

We're committed to 2 more parties (totaling 10 years), then it will be somebody else's turn to take up the yoke. If I had a place out in the sticks, I'd do this in a heartbeat. We're trying a sunday afternoon, on labor day weekend this year. Earlier start, earlier end. We'll miss the late night sing alongs. Hopefully the last one will be on a saturday night.
