what's wrong with the Highway 1 series ???

I have recently purchased a US Fender Precision Highway 1 sun burst bass made in 2006. And It sounds great etc

when i tried to trade it in for a JazzBass, the guy from the store told me the following:

-we don't like the Highway 1 series, they are not that successful
-we can't expect to sell it for the half of the price you have paid for it new, so the trade in deal will not be really interesting for you
-Fender makes the Highway 1 series from the "remains", it's not the same wood quality; finish quality etc that's why it is "cheaper"..
-i'm not really saying all this to diss your instrument, but its the "truth"

i have paid this Highway 1 Precision bass about 900eur new (it's the ripp-off-europe price)

can anyone explain me what's wrong with this world????

i got fooled by Fender ?

after i have heard all this, i kept my Precision bass and i'm mounting on it Lollar pickups and i think i'm gonna keep it. It sounds absolutely amazing in its original state and i'm happy with it., i believe Lollar pickups will add more tone range and depth to it, .. and i just wanted the JazzBass to have a bit more of tone variability...

    Hello. Welcome to TFF.

I think you found a dealer who just either A) gave you his honest, possibly ill-informed opinion or B) wanted to give you a very lowball price on a trade in, or C) a combination of the two.

I've been hanging out at this forum for a long time and I've owned a Hwy1 Tele and Strat. They're good guitars with a good reputation.

And hey, if you like the one you have, that's all that matters.

Sometimes you hear about a dog from an otherwise good product line. And sometimes you hear about a real gem from a product line with a poor reputation. It really comes down to how you feel about the specific instrument in your hands.

I mean, so what if everyone was trashing the Hwy1? You like the one you have, right? And really, not everyone is trashing the Hwy1. I think in general it's well liked.
    s'all goof.

    Welcome to TFF.

IMO There is nothing wrong with the Highway One series basses. My 2005 Jazz bass has a single piece alder body (nothing inferior about that). Good maple neck w/rosewood fingerboard. Is American made. Lacquer finish. (you can make it shiny by buffing it out.)

Only thing I did to mine was change out the pickguard. Tortoise shell instead of white. I think they were just trying to get your bass on the cheap so they could profit on both deals.

Besides, if you just can't stand it, you can always send it to MMP in America.

I have a Highway One Texas Telecaster and it's among the best guitars I've ever played. Quality wise, it's a very nice guitar with a great feeling neck and a light ash 3 piece body. The finish is the weak point with these guitars, but like MMP said, you can buff it out to a shine or let that happen naturally with oil and sweat.

I also think the dealer was trying to screw you.

    +1

If its in as new condition I would be almost positive he will put it on the floor for 2/3 to 3/4 of the new price. Remember you bought it, so others would also. You need to think about how much customers would have to pay to get something significantly better, quite a bit I would say - maybe up to 1700 Euro at a rough guess?

I have a 2005 Hwy1 Strat. It replaced a restore '57 Strat. It's a great guitar. The body is a beautiful piece (3 pieces, actually) of wood. I love the sunburst. It has a lot of red like the Jazz Bass above.

The only drawback for me is the skinny neck.

It's never a good idea to trade an instrument in.

Re: what's wrong with the Highway 1 series ???

    ok.. thanks to everyone

i just got back my Hw 1 Precision bass from the workshop, they did some "adjustments" and told me : "we would have never imagined you bought this like that... but don't worry, now its done and everything is allright..." - i really don't know what they ment, i was a bit surprised. I think got totally fooled up by the store where i bought the bass, it appeared like they sold it to me in a totally "raw" state... doh im really tired dealing with such various store crooks...

Anyways, i have put on my bass Jason Lollar "Precision bass" pick ups and now i can tell you, the new pick ups gave a NEW LIFE to this bass!!!!! No way i will be trading it for the 1/4 of the price.. its a great bass.

That's good to hear that you're enjoying your bass again. Find another store. It sounds like this place isn't especially honest.
