Just wondering who you guys love to listen to on a strat? Gazza recently turned me onto Rory Gallagher and he is rapidly becoming my favorite strat player, although David Gilmour is still up there. Who do you guys like?

My favorites are.......
Rory Gallagher
Robert Cray
Walter Trout
Gary Moore
Even though I tire of hearing his copycats anymore, I still think Stevie was tops!
Jason
The Bear Guy
I love the avatar pic Black Bear
PS: Tell me about it, living in Dallas you can't walk into any bar without hearing a note for note perfect version of Texas Flood. On one hand it's impressive, but on the other it gets old real fast.

Yeah, I'd have to go with Hendrix, too.
I need to check out some Rory Gallagher, tho. I'm getting tired of not knowing who the hell he is. ;-)
Altho not my absolute favorite strat players, Jimmy Bryant and Speedy West did some interesting things on em, too.

This has been a famous mortimer production
I gotta add Hendrix, Bramhall II and Robin Trower to my list of faves...
ShawnRT,
Thanks... Andy and Barney are my heroes. Hey, Andy was a picker and made smoking look wholesome!
I love SRV, and I own everything he put out (living and posthumously), but the copycats are ruining it for me...

I would start with some of the old Scorpions albums, like Virgin Killer or Taken By Force, there is some cool stuff there. VK and Taken by Force have just been remastered and re-released after being oop for a while. :)
Dave P,
Cool and thanks, I'll try and pick them up this weekend!
Clapton, Hendrix, Gilmour, SRV and Blackmore. :wail2

There are players who play Strats and then there are "Strat players," the ones who get the most out of the Strat and play in a style which best utilizes the instrument's tonal and textural qualities. The "Strat player" is a rare and special breed. For me, Jimi and Stevie Ray are the ultimate "Strat players."
Since the obvious choices have been made, I'll throw in a few others. Holdsworth, when not playing that Synthaxe, likes to wield a Strat. How about Ernie Isley, Garey Shider, Adrian Belew, Warren Haynes, Cesar Rojas, and Elliott Easton? And Yngwie.

leo fender was a genius and he didn't even play the guitar, thank god for george fullerton! ADMINISTRAITOR OF THE MESA/BOOGIE FORUM
I was thinking of putting Holdsworth on my list, but as much as I love his sound (I was just playing I.O.U. in my car the other day), it's tough for me to think of him as "a Strat player" in the way you use it above. He has such an idiosyncratic sound, it's tough to hear any real pick attack or any trace of a characteristic Fender sound.Originally posted by ElTigre

Along similar lines, I don't know how much he played guitar on it, but Curtis Mayfield certainly looked cool with his Strat in Superfly, one the great movie soundtracks of the 1970s

Ed, I agree with you. I don't put Holdsworth in the category of "Strat player" - nor some of the others I listed. I just wanted to list some other players of the instrument who, sometimes, get overlooked. I feel that "Strat players," per my definition, represent a small substrate.
In the meantime, I thought of a few others: Jeff Healey, Steve Hillage. I've seen a few pics of Elliott Randall w/ a Strat, although I don't know what his main axe was.
P.S. Curtis Mayfield, a composer/arranger/player/stylist in his own right, is a good choice. He wrote the "Superfly" sountrack and played the guitar on it. More often than a Strat, though, he played a Tele.

Katon rocks! I hope some people read this and go check him out. He's trying to play some more dates in Southeastern Michigan/Toledo area. And of course in Bowling Green! In addition to being a great strat slinger, he's a great guy, and a good friend to boot! And he's giving guitar lessons on Mondays at my store in Ann Arbor!
TBD
Guess.
