Haven't worked with it, but my old Takamine J-200 copy (forget the model number) had nato back and sides (with a red cedar top). Sounded really good- still does, matter of fact, but for the past 10 years or so it's been my friend's guitar.

Given the red cedar top, I can't really speculate as to how much of the sound was the nato, but it was pretty much the kind of sustain and midrange that I'm used to from mahogany.
Everyone sings about Memphis, but no one ever does anything about it.

Nato is a type of mahogany. Carpenters call it ribbon mahogany because of the grain. I believe it is also called Sapele. I had a Takamine acoustic with Nato back sides and neck, it looked nice and sounded really good too.

I have worked with tons of Sapele.
It is similar to Mahogany. For sidebending it bends alot easier. Like butter! And it's harder to crack.
It routes well too. It seems a bit harder and is definitly heavier than Mahogany.
Personally I would prefer to use mahogany, but if you make Sapele your thing it will work very well and make a great guitar.
