I believe I posted up here about a month ago I got a used Gibby 335. Figured maple with blocks. It plays great but I wasn't in love w/ it's tone amplified. The neck pup was muddy if not full on and the bridge pup was bordering on strident. Had a decision to make, get rid of a great playing guitar because it sounds like azz, or address it.
I decided on option 2. It had Gibby's Calibrated Ts (which are T Top influenced). I went with Wolfetone Dr Vs and a new RS Guitar works wiring harness. Had them installed and picked up last Sat. Did NOT have a chance to play it before leaving the shop. Well Sunday I have a chance to play and the neck pup was 99% dead. (The rig was set for about 90db and you could barely hear it).
Anyways I took it back today and showed the shop what was happening. The tech scratched his head, then quickly moved the toggle (new Switch craft) back and forth. We place it in the middle position and performed a tap test on the pups. Wonders of wonders, it works now.
Yet to give it a proper run, but even though the crappy old Crate amp in the shop, I could tell it sounds better.
Was the switch just not fully engaging in the neck pup position? Who knows. While it works, I will have to give it some time before I trust it.
What say you?
