What happend?
Who let the magic smoke out?
What could it be?
Hint, it is not a canoe.
But, I might need a paddle if this goes awry.
What happend?
Who let the magic smoke out?
Tele body?
Jimmy Hoffa?
Lindbergh baby?
A misshapen drumhead?
Sponge Bob Square Pants?

Good job CHW!
3 1/2 pounds of pine!
Time to start sanding.
Edit:
Haven't seen Jimmy in a while, and that ain't a pineapple SpongeBob lives in.

I am not disappointed that it's a Tele body, but I was really banking on Sponge Bob.

I was hopin' for da canoes! Could you make it into a canoes?
Pine is one of my favorite body woods! Really looking forward to seeing this completed.
"don't worry, i'm a professional!"
Thanks for the encouragement!
I have sanded it smooth with 400 grit and the neck holes are drilled.
I also drilled all the pick guard, and control plate holes.
This will be a top loader, so no ferrule holes.
The next step is the finish, which won't happen today.
My left hand slipped of a muddy pvc conduit today at work and I cut the snot out of my ring finger.
I'm a big ole dummy.
As for that finish, I'm going with a clear Danish Oil.
It should add a hint of color, protect the wood, and it fits my minimalist cheapskate attitude.

Last Tele I built was my first Top Loader, cuz I was too lazy to drill for ferrules... You know what? I'm glad I didn't, never knew that I'd like it. Now it has me wondering what some of my other Teles would sound like strung that way! I have Wilkinson bridges on most of them, so it's already set up to be either or!
IDK what you're planning on using for a bridge. But take a look at the Wilkinson! It's awesome, better than the expensive "booteek" ones I've used in the past. And they're only $35, AND have the best compensated saddles I've ever used. Best deal around

Schweet!
I have decided to be happy because it's good for my health.
BTW, what are the qualities of a pine body compared to one of alder or ash?

To my ears, it's a dry, lively, well balanced, articulate without icepicky tone. Sort of hard to explain, but it's kinda like a lightweight Swamp Ash type of tone. "Airy" would be another adjective I'd use.

The neck.
I had originally planned to have a friend build me a custom flame on flame neck.
After much deliberation and discussion of detail, I decided against it.
I felt that I should assemble at least one guitar before I started ordering master craftsman level necks.
Thanks to Alex who so generously shared his experience and knowledge.
I purchased a used USACG neck off of the bay.
Birdseye and rosewood with 22 vintage sized frets.
I don't know who did its one level and crown, but they did a very nice job. Attaboy, unknown luthier.
Overall, the neck is nearly flawless and has an awesome feel.

Awwww yeahhhh...Tele goodness in the house!
"...pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field;
that, of course, they are many in number; or that, after all, they are other than the little,
shriveled, meagre, hopping, though loud and troublesome, insects of the hour."
-Edmund Burke
Assembled, setup, and tested.
Fantastic guitar!
Pics now, discussion later.

That is a fine looking Tele. Glad it plays well. Enjoy it!

YES!!!
"don't worry, i'm a professional!"
Hell yeah! That's killer Tele build... Enjoy..
Thanks for the back pats y'all.
I didn't intend to leave you hanging but, I'm really having a lot of fun with this one.
For the first string change I added just a hair more relief and lowered it a little.
Same strings as always, 10-46 regular slinkys.
Laboratory tested, to the studio tomorrow!

Studio time cancelled, back on tomorrow.
Good clips coming this week (I hope).

Looking forward to hearing how it sounds.

I'm cutting out some 1.5" pine Tele bodies this week for myself and a friend. Mine will be a Snakehead replica, Robbie's will be a baritone metal monster.
