    Work, work, work...

I thought I had posted this, but I couldn't find it.

Just some of my haul during the summer and some from the last year I'm hacking away at.

The one that's bugging my brain the most is TWO Baldwin
    54-A organ amps.
    That's right...each has this:
    5U4GB, (2) 12AX7A's, (4) EL84's, plus a side car (2) 12AX7A, and (2) EL84's. That's two amps in one, two output transformers.

    Uh...times two.
Somebody help me figure out what to build with those.

Well the OT's are gonna be 8KA-A and 20W tops; no?

That'll pretty much govern whatever you do with 'em...

    Re: Work, work, work...

    Found the OT's are:
    Main 5K primary at 4 0hms, 28 watt
Reverb amp: 8 ohm , unknown primary , 14 watt.

I'm more familiar with 6V6/6L6 /EL34 designs, just have to look up the curves.
Yeah, I know, I ought to know it by now.
Being a garage builder doesn't lend itself to having to actually put much of this to memory.
Dang 'puters anyways...they hold my database!

Built one Spitfire, but it was one of those that just needed preamp work to convert it, power side was fine.

I ought to build at least one Trainwreck since I seem to have the stuff kicking around!

    Any other ideas?
I know I need to do the power supply to use the reverb amps.
Sure could use a tube stereo for the shop...

maybe a low power ampeg style flip top out of one those that has big trannies?

for all practice/recording purposes a flip top is king! they've been out for over 50 years and are still the cream of the crop for bass tone. for me, live bass tone is just a louder version of what they do.

Impressive! I was thinking something along the line of a Trainwreck based off your pics and early info.

I see that you came to a similar idea later.

    Do it!

B15 is something to think about.

Or two Spitfires and two Rockets?

The other two console stereo amps are also perfect for power trannies for the Spitfires.
    Both are already GZ34, 2x12AX7, and 2xEL84.
So I'll use the small output transformer from the Baldwin (the 14 watt reverb amp) and combine them into a new chassis.

    Good start.
