Eric Johnson Pickups
Can anyone here define the difference between the three?
I know they are custom made to Erics specs, but I cant find any detailed information on them.

Re: Eric Johnson Pickups
The bridge pickup is pretty much a normal alnico 5 pickup wound hot, to about 7. I'd expect a Fralin bridge pup to sound pretty much identical.
I can't remember the specs on the middle pickup, but I'm pretty sure it's al5, and I know it's RW/RP.
The neck pickup is the one that's really special. It uses alnico 3 magnets with oversized poles. IIRC, it's wound to about 6k. I don't know much more about it than that.
Other than the neck pickup, the set isn't really all that unique. It's really just a vintage repro middle and a hot vintage bridge.
Edit: According to this thread on TGP, the middle pickup is Al3, not Al5. So the middle pickup is a little unusual as well. Nonetheless, you could probably replicate the sound of an EJ set by putting a couple of Fralin Real 54s in the neck and middle, and a Vintage Hot in the bridge.
