    Roof test

While looking at yamaha guitars because of the SA-2000 thread, I found this on Yamaha's website.

    Roof Test

I'm sure this is not the only guitar in the world able to pass this test, but how many have tried?

Now I know which gutiar I am gonna use for that rooftop gig. When the police come and kick us off so fast that I don't get a chance to grab my guitar, I'll know that even though it may take a month to sneek back onto the roof to get my guitar, it will be in perfectly playable condition after a string change.

Thick layers of poly will protect the wood quite well.
But does that make it a good guitar?

Won't you be wearing your guitar when the police come and kick you off the roof? Seems to me you won't need a chance to grab it... it should be in your hands.

    Re: Roof test

I really thought I was going to click a link to a video of someone dropping a guitar off of the roof.

The location and altitude meant little in their version of "the roof test."

    Re: Roof test

They put it on a guitar stand? And we're to believe it stood upright on a rooftop for a month, through wind, rain, hail, etc.? Riiiiiight.

Of course it's much cheaper to just put a guitar on a stand on the roof for 5 min, take a couple of pics, then take it down, box it and send it off to a dealer to be sold than it is to actually waste a guitar....and no one would ever know. Except for the REALLY rusty strings:

Not saying they didn't do this test, just sayin...

When I worked for Hasbro we used to put large toys on the roof to test them. Mostly to see if they'd fade in the sun.

Silent j: I guess I must have been thinkin the pacifica was either my back up guitar sitting on the stand, that the police said "PUT THE GUITAR DOWN AND GET ON THE GROUND!", that I was playing another instrument at the time of the bust (melodica, electric charongo, ocarina, etc.), or that I managed to grab my amp instead.

Personally I'd like to see their local weather report during this past March.

Jonnda, the first thing you grab is your mace/pepper spray. Then you have time to get both your guitar and your amp. And maybe come back for your pedal board!

Wow, I sure need to plan my theoretical ileagle rooftop concerts better.... but somehow I think mace+cop=canidate for the bad idea thread.

If a cop says that to you when you're on a roof, don't do it.

    Re: Roof test

    THIS is "the roof test."

It's just one story, and the guitar was not plugged in, but you can't have everything, I guess.

Here's an acoustic "roof test" variation.

Didn't John Hiatt write a song about destroyin' a perfect good guitar?

Does Mesa Boogie still smack the chassis with a hammer when it's turned on to test them?

Fripperton: Interesting, i've never heard this before. Sounds like how my metal shop teacher in high school tested things.

Neo: I should get me one of those cases should I ever need to fly.
