Feel Like Woody Allen Sometimes

So I am doing my bimonthly safety duty.
Checking the smoke alarms.
The one in the kitchen fails to work, even with a fresh 9V battery.
Probably gave up after one too many a blast from Martha's Kitchen.

So...handy dandy!
Got a brand new one. It works just fine laying on the table.
Install it (of course the screw holes are different), and it refuses to work.

But the one I took down, Ever Suffering Sweet Wife puts a battery in it, and it works just fine while it lays on the counter.

Fugget.
I told her to leave it there, as is, we are protected.
