DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to driving his motorized La-Z-Boy chair while drunk. A criminal complaint says 62-year-old Dennis LeRoy Anderson told police he left a bar in the northern Minnesota town of Proctor on his chair after drinking eight or nine beers.

Prosecutors say Anderson's blood alcohol content was 0.29, more than three times the legal limit, when he crashed into a parked vehicle in August 2008. He was not seriously injured.

Police said the chair was powered by a converted lawnmower and had a stereo and cup holders.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Heather Sweetland stayed 180 days of jail time Monday and ordered two years of probation for Anderson. His attorney, David Keegan, did not immediately return a call for comment.

What's the standard punishment for this? I hope they don't give him...the chair.

UNION, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a South Carolina man's good intentions almost caused an explosive situation.

After the man's uncle died, he discovered that his relative had collected potentially explosive materials including grenades, dynamite and black powder.

The man, who was not identified by police, feared the materials might fall into the wrong hands, so he drove 80 miles to his uncle's house and loaded his truck with some of the items. Then he drove back to his home county of Union on Wednesday to give the materials to police.

Union County Sheriff David Taylor says the man brought the items to him because the two know each other.

Taylor says deputies closed off several streets and called the bomb squad when they learned about the items. The materials were later destroyed.

    No charges are expected.

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - A motorized La-Z-Boy used by a man who pleaded guilty to driving it drunk is going up for auction. But police said interested bidders need to keep it off the streets. The chair, powered by a lawnmower engine, comes equipped with a stereo, cup holders and lights.

Police in Proctor, in northern Minnesota, are putting the seized chair up for auction on eBay on Thursday. The proceeds will go to the police, state and the prosecuting attorney.

But Chief Walter Wobig cautions that the chair isn't "street legal," so any buyer should stick to the living room - or at most a parade.

The former owner, Dennis LeRoy Anderson, pleaded guilty this month to operating the chair while intoxicated. His family is also auctioning on eBay an autographed photo of him riding the La-Z-Boy to help with his fees.

This story just gets better and better...

    http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2...-boy_comes.php

The legendary DWI motorized chair used by a drunk Minnesota man as he tried to get home from the bar last month was racking up impressive bids yesterday, topping $43,000 with more than 12 hours to go. But then La-Z-Boy came after the police department, claiming the chair wasn't really an actual La-Z-Boy and couldn't be advertised as such.

The chair was removed from eBay for awhile Monday, but reposted under a new title, description and original asking price.

Wobig said Proctor police posted the chair under the La-Z-Boy name because that was how it was described in media accounts, and police wanted people to know what they were bidding on. The chair received news coverage throughout the United States and overseas.

Wobig said he had a pleasant conversation with a representative of La-Z-Boy on Monday. He said La-Z-Boy didn't ask that the chair be removed from auction, but did ask that the company name not be used. La-Z-Boy's corporate counsel also contacted the News Tribune on Monday asking that it not use its trademark in future news reports about the motorized chair.

Wobig said the chair was custom-built and there are no markings or any manufacturer's name on it.

Here's the auction...under Ebay Motors, of course.

That's all cool and everything, but if you really want a fast recliner, then I suggest this one:
