    Clowns...Creepy or Funny?

I've never liked clowns since childhood. I've always just found them to be wierd and NOT funny. I'm not talking phobia here, just a mild dislike for them.

Is it just me or do others here perceive clowns to be creepy?

And also, what makes one want to become a clown?

If those are the only choices, I'll have to go with creepy. Because they're for sure not funny.

I knew a guy who went to Clown College at Barnum and Bailey and worked for them for a couple years. He became a local children's TV host (Happy the Hobo) where he showed off his unbelievable juggling chops, and eventually married a woman who ran a local modeling agency and they went to Chicago where they now manufacture custom fortune cookies.

    What kind of guy? Odd.

    Clowns are definitely creepy.

My wife deals (or used to deal) with a client that moonlighted as a clown. Apparently he would sometimes show up for an appointment in his clown attire, highly inappropriate (my wife is an escrow officer).

I find the entire clown premise to be both revolting and juvenile. Which is prolly why I never took to "Chicago Hope" after Mandy Patankin showed up in episode one wearing a "Bozo suit".

I was kind of ambivalent to clowns. But then I read Stephen King's It and now I'm going to have to come down on the "creepy" side of the vote.

I work at a childrens hospital. We had a volunteer who would come around pretty often in clown makeup. Whichever kid had been the most annoying that day would be the room I'd recommend he start with.

It's both amazing and amusing how many rooms he'd go into and we'd immediately hear a scream from that room.

He eventually quit coming in clown gear. He still volunteers, just in normal clothes, now.

I'm not scared of clowns but I won't put myself in a position close to one.

    Re: Clowns...Creepy or Funny?

Ummmm.... I like most clowns. THe only live one I found creepy called himself "Shat-Upon the Anti-Clown" from an episode of Wild Chicago years ago. He also sometimes calls himself "FUgly the KlowN"

Other then that there was Binky from Garfield & Freinds:

    And further more
These are the only two clowns that have ever really bothered me, and to tell the truth Binky still made me laugh because of the context and he was so fun to hate. I liked chicago's Bozo, but mainly for the talent of Joey D'Auria the man who played him. Clowns to me are entertaining, not all that funny most of the time- but fun. I'm not sure if The Joker could be considered a real clown... okay maybe there are three that bother me.

But really, how can you say that any of these people I think of as clowns are not funny:

If you don't know who these guys are, up here we have Harpo and Groucho Marx, Lucille Ball, and Buster Keaton. The list for me goes on, but I don't want to take up that much time and room. You may say "Those are not clowns!", well I disagree.

Oh, there is even a clown that kinda turns me on a little. Ever watch Batman? Ever notice Harley Quinn much? Ohhhh yeah. ;)

Yup full screen is the only way to watch it.

Grrr... nothing happened. Yeah it was cool, but it never thawed time. How do they do this effect anyway, I have seen it a dozen times before. Is it all just CGI or a melding of CGI and real images?

I knew I'd seen that mask before! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdET08_f4yY

71818: yeah, how could I have left out those three!?! Personally I think most of the comedians that came out of the vaudeville era were some of the best clowns we have ever seen.

    Re: Clowns...Creepy or Funny?

I had an ex-girlfriend with a huge clown phobia. I had this hand made stuffed clown doll my great aunt made perched on a dresser in my bedroom and the first time she walked in the room she absolutly freaked right out and was in tears over this harmless peice of stuffed clothe. Picking it up and bringing it towards didn't help matters. Needless to say, there was no "clowning" around in the bedroom that night. I was in dis-belief that someone could seriously be scared of clowns, especially 2 foot tall clown dolls. It was a pretty happy looking clown to me.
