Hi,
I just can't make up my mind. Mint green, gold anodized, black...?
Hi,
I just can't make up my mind. Mint green, gold anodized, black...?
What about pearloid? That's a good look with CAR.
s'all goof.
Been there. Mint made my guitar look like a X-Mas Tree. Gold is to wierd for me on Car and black made the guitar look like I was a member of Loverboy.
White.
You wish you were a member of Loverboy!
s'all goof.
Parchment (aged white). Looks classy.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

That's what I used when I built my '63 clone, Pseudocat. The mint green pickguard made the guitar look too "muddy". For any red Strat, I'd recommend the parchment.

Red & Black pearloid.
White or black are probably your best options. Black with black pickup covers - nice and classy against the CAR.
I'd avoid anything too flashy with CAR - so skip the MOTO and Tortoise shell and the gold anodized.
If it's a slab board I'd go with mint. If it's a later model go with white.
Personally I like this look the best for CAR.
White pearloid, my man.

Holy snikeys TJ, that neck is gorgeous!

Indeed, Ian!
You look up "schweeeet" in your Funk & Wagnall's an' theres a picture of TJ's neck.

YMMV, but, gold anodized, but leave your hardware chrome. i LOVE my jazzmaster, and that's the compliments on it.

Parchment gets my vote.
I think I'm sticking with stock white :) By the way, I can't tell if the guitar is CAR or Chrome Red
If it's after 1994 call Fender's Customer Service line with the serial number and they can tell you what color it is.
Outside the box pickguard ideas..

If aliens listened to our current top 40, they'd think that the entire planet was populated by sexually ambivalent robots with ethnic insecurity.
When I bought it the guy I bought it from said it's CAR, but I have suspicions it's Chrome Red. After all it's not a big difference and not a big issue :)
Here's a CAR
Here's a Chrome Red

Here's my '63 [again, but it's a good pic for these CAR strings].
Now here's the Xmas Strat...
Oh wow, now that is just too much.......too much in the sense that it just becomes too cool!
"Sorry" - John Belushi as he smashed a guitar in Animal House
I always get comments when I bring it to Xmas parties and Holiday Season gigs. :-)
I like CAR with a plain ol' white pickguard. Something about that red that looks elegant alongside white. Now as to which shade of white...

Haha [pretty dang stinky, eh?] It oughta be: it's a Saga kit [$85 off the 'bay].
You have to cut your own headstock shape. I scalloped the f/board for a little Yngwie action, then added a Sensor in the bridge and a no-name alnico in the neck for some sparkle [the stock ceramics are strong but dull].
I got the action just right finally, and now it's one of my main gigging gtrs. Who'da thunk?
i can dig it! did you paint that or have someone do it?

That's a jar of glitter sprinkled on top of wet ModPodge. Then I brushed more 'podge on top to seal it. Pretty lo-tech, eh?
Here's a Mod Podge site some craftsperson has started:

It's a white emulsion--a bit like Elmer's glue. I used it to decoupage some fabric on this homebuilt amp, like fake Tolex.
I really love the 3-ply creme (or is that cream?) Cr/B/Cr guards that this guy has been making for me locally. I should post a pick or two.
White single ply.
Parchment or mint green.
Tone is in the fingers, eh? Let's hear your Vox, Marshall and Fender fingerings then...
