    Lipstick in a Pig

Dropped a used Duncan lipstick sized for Strat in mid pos of my el cheapo Mexi rosewood Strat (not enough lead to reach the neck). Shazaam - what a sound! Had to check and see if there was reverb or delay on it was so ambient! Now, if I can just figure out why it wants to feedback so easily....WTF???

    Possibly a slightly microphonic pickup

Q is whether lipstick PUs are inherently microphonic. Seems like a real possibility with way they are designed...

The lipstick p/us in my Danelectro were not microphonic at all though they were re-issues and I have no idea how similar they were to the originals.

Haw! the magic of rum!!! Got whacked on a few Pinas, next thing I know I was playin, then cussing my feedback, then soldering. Seems it was just a matter of a loose ground (there are 2x on this weird PU). Voila - no feedback, Strange thing is a little magic was lost and some high end came back as well. Least it's 'gig-able' now... :-)

I'm in love with my GFS 8K Pro-Tube - yer meant to use 'em in the bridge but I've got mine in the neck and it's awesome - works well with their 6K middle in a strat setup though you'd prolly need a fairly hot bridge for overall balance - it's that good I'm thinkin' of getting another 'guard for my Tele to put one in that - in fact I just did! Not too keen on the Pro-Tube HB's though Oh and zero microphonics...
If I could find a road to get away it wouldn't be too soon....... Shipwreck Moon.......
