What about entry level shure wireless mics?

I'm looking to pick up a Shure wireless mic for the lead singer in the band.

I'm looking used or entry level to get started.

The two I'm looking at are the PG58 wireless witha UT4A reciever (5 years old), it's UHF and in the 500 freq.

There is an older VHF system that uses the L4 reciever, but has the SM58 wireless mic.

My only experience with wireless mics is the headset our bass player uses. It's a shure wh-20 headset with an AKG wireless unit. It sounds terrible.

    Any opinions?

I wanted to share with everyone.

I called Shure today. The wireless mic body is actually the same on the PG58 and the SM58, and the cartridge is replaceable, and just screws in.

Here's the example from the Shure website.

    Replacement Cartridge Wireless Microphone Model
    RPW110 PG58 (dynamic)
    RPW112 SM58 (dynamic)
    RPW114 SM86 (condenser)
    RPW116 SM87A (condenser)
    RPW118 BETA 58A (dynamic)
    RPW120 BETA 87A (condenser)
    RPW122 BETA 87C (condenser)
    RPW 180 KSM9 (champagne, condenser)
    RPW184 KSM9 (black, condenser)

    I'll still look for a SM58 or the beta58

Re: What about entry level shure wireless mics?

i don't remember if they make a wireless beta 87, but that's a nicer mic than a 58 or beta 58. then again, if money is an issues...

all that said, a shure 58 is hard to mess up in a live situation. it's an industry standard for a reason. i've mixed a whole lot of shows and would prefer a 58.

the thing with wireless is that it compresses the audio, i don't know how loud your singer actually sings, but this may be a problem. something to think about. if you don't have a good sound guy, or nice PA, it's pretty much all gonna be crap.

buy the best you can, that's my input.
