I'm in the design phase of a build and one thing I need to know is how much a PAF humbucker weighs. I'm looking at 57 Classics but any similar pickup is probably close enough. Thanks.....Bill

Good question. I make these things and I don't really know. I'd guess about 5 ounces, more with a cover, less if mag is ceramic.
I got an answer by going to a guitar store and bringing the gram scale. They had an old Seymour Duncan that came in at 143 grams. Later, I bought a pair of 57 Classics via eBay and they were a bit heavier, probably due to the cover. Bottom line -- 145.5 grams each. 145.5 / 28.3495 = 5.13 oz. You were very close!
My crazy build may require something special in place of the stock 57's. I wonder how I'd spec something like that?
Thanks............Bill
Only way to know is to try pickups you're familiar with in the guitar, analyze what's good and bad about them in the new alumi-hollow, and take it from there.
Maybe someone could make a "humbucker-lite"---less weight and tone.![]()

That's what I thought. I have no personal experience with HB pickups (well, since about 1975 anyway) so it will sound "different" to me in any case. What I need to do is have some hollowbody players try it and see if there's anything common in their comments.
Thanks.........Bill
accordingly to the Lace official site, their Alumitone humbuckers are 1/3lb lighter in weight.

Those would look cool on my build!
