    Guild Starfire

So I figure since Guild is owned by Fender this would be the appropriate forum? Anyway, I have found someone selling one for approx. $800. It is supposed to be from the 90's and some sort of blue color. It is also supposed to have been built in the US. I haven't found too much info on them, so I was wondering what you guys thought about this guitar. Good deal? No? Thanks!

If its in good condition, sounds like a pretty good deal compared to what they are going for on ebay.

By the way, it looks like a Gibson ES-335. Yeah, compared to the ones on Ebay it seems like a good deal.

I also like the DeArmond Starfires they had out for a couple years before Someone realized how good they were and ruined them by making Squiers out of them and then dropping all of them.

Ok, question for you guys. The one that I looked at has a small crack that runs all across the neck joint. If this was the guitar, you would see the line on the white binding part next to the strap key. I can't tell if it is just the finish that is cracked or what. Opinions? At least the guy lowered the price to $700...

I sounds like you're describing a finish crack due to the expansion of separate wood parts and bindings. It would be an extremely shallow crack. If so, it's common and not a problem.

    Re: Guild Starfire

Do you mean a seam/space between the binding and that semi-circle heel cap?

    No problem.

I look forward to phtots of the real thing when you get it.

    Re: Guild Starfire

I played an absolutely heavenly sounding early 60's A-50 with a Franz neck pickup last Friday.

Only $1,200. I don't need another GAS attack.

Yeah. It should have been an X-50, because of the pickup. "A"[coustic] is for guitars with no electronics. Tempting, and decent condition, but I convinced myself that the couple of side cracks didn't make it a 'must have.'

Even with round wounds it was "the sound of jazz."

Oh well, if you really wanted it, that wouldn't have deterred you.
You could have told yourself, "I only spent $5 on the Fernandes. So this won't tilt the bargain scale for at least another few hundred bucks."

    Sounds pretty cool.
    I haven't managed to play a Guild w/Franz p'ups yet.

It's at Alpha Audio in Mystic. They've also got an older Hoboken CE-100 with two Franz' for a couple hundred more.

    This one kicks it's ass.

My skinny hollowbody GAS has been dealt with.

It should be arriving this week.
Way cheaper and better (IMO) than the new Harmonys I tried recently. (Those thing were pretty disappointing, BTW.)
That's all I'm saying 'til it's in hand.
