Hey! Great post 69! You're a guitar teacher too. I guess this proves the 16 year old is way more on top of it than me! Hey... they DO go to eleven man....

I like 22 frets on a Strat. It's the "just in case" fret for sure.

As long as it doesn't interfere with the placement of the neck pickup, why not have a 22nd fret?

"Tradition" don't mean squat to me.
Tone is in the fingers, eh? Let's hear your Vox, Marshall and Fender fingerings then...

I think it looks nicer to. Having the fretboard cover the joint cleans us the asthetics to me.

From an access perspective, if I'm playing up that high, I want a 24 fret neck - its just more comfortable.

For a "vintage" style guitar - like a regular strat with singles and a pickguard, then its got to be 21. For a hotrod Charvel, then its 22 for me.

    21 or 22 doesn't bother me.

24 does. It moves the neck pickup. Also, sometimes they'll shift the strings of the guitar to the left so that you're not fretting by your navel. That screws up the whole geometry of the guitar too.

I use the 22nd fret here and there, but it's not something I take notice of. But sometimes when I don't have it, I'll realise I don't have it on my strat, and it bugs me. I have 21 fretters, 22 fretters and 24 fretters. I don't need 24. I can't do enough with 21s. 22s are key for me.

lol most of those hard rock and metal songs were recorded on les pauls and played live on charvels or some other superstrat if not the same les pauls.

I dont know, people say you play different guitars differently, I notice there are certain things I prefer to do on one vs the other but if two guitars have roughly the same neck then I dont really notice a difference.

If the walrus is Paul then who is Carmen Sandiego?
