Piggyback Clip Bars...wierd peices of metal

Well, I have looked all over the place. One of my buddies here has a cool old Tremolux BF head and cabinet. The cabinet has tilt back legs, the bushings for the thumb screws and the head has the holes from the clip bars but the clip bars are missing. He never knew why the legs were there until I showed him the pictures of the piggyback concept (he is somewhat of a space case) So....

We bought a set of the thumb screws and the clip bars and all makes sense and works except for the fact that there are these two flat slightly bent pieces of metal in the package along with the clip bars and I can not figure out what they are for....are they supposed to go betewwn amp and clip bar. I have found no other use for these. Does someone know the solution to this mystery?

I think they're friction clamps -- to be installed as you suggest to keep the bars from sliding out when they're not needed. My '68 Bandmastah has 'em as well.
