Fantastic! Killer low volume cleans (due to compression) - caveat, with the right speaker.

And...the cleans can be increased in a really good way by turning up the unused channel. Unless you're a certain Canadian guitarist, it will satisfy most players out there.

Yep. It's funny, the unused channel is more of a volume control than the used volume control is! If you're using the bright channel, that volume control is more of a tone control anyway.

Such is the zen of the 5E3.

I've always wondered what a 5E3 made with 6K6 tubes would sound like. I'd bet it'd be a groovy push-pull with the output of a champ.

I love that about my clone. There are all kinds of different sounds at different volume levels. There's nothing like it cranked, but it's got great cleans as well and the interaction of the volume controls is handy. Guys used to play jazz in the studio on these.

I just placed an order with Mission for a 5E3 kit.

    I'm stoked !

It will be replacing the..... you know what...

H o t R o d D e l u x e <ha. Actually I'm not disappointed in HRDX. But that gain side of the amp...yuck.. I tried all the tubes.. I now have a fair set up with the HRDX a scratch built gray spec DOD 250 and a Mullard 12AT7 in V2 makes the gain usable, but I don't seem to.

But all the comments, the raving, all the kits available, all the folks selling amps based on the 5E3....I cant stand missing out on something...My playing may not deserve the 5E3 but someday, who knows. Im a DIY guy, always have been. When I twist one of those chicken heads I'm gonna feel so good.

    Thanks yall

Literally, right? Wasn't his original studio his parent's house?

Speakers really do make a huge difference, well I guess everything matters on a 5E3, seems to be like a dragster. Switch this, a little more or less of that and you can season it to match a wide variety of situations and needs.

I like switching pre-amp tubes for tone changes, I'm starting to get a modest collection of old tubes. My 5E3 lets me hear every little change I make.

An example of this is, this week I got my new cables from Death Valley Cables and I went from a 20ft monster, to a 10ft DVC cable for home use. What a difference a good shorter cable makes.

    Have fun!
