Well, this is certainly my #1 prettiest build to date. It sounds really great with the Kinman AVN Blues pickups, but depending on the situation, I might grab it or another Strat.
Had her since she was new early 80s. 10lbs thats ok she sounds great.
[QUOTE=Bloozcat;482565]Well, this is certainly my #1 prettiest build to date. It sounds really great with the Kinman AVN Blues pickups, but depending on the situation, I might grab it or another Strat.
Looks like the Vestal virgins found thre treee of life, carved the divine guitar from it dripped the sweetest clover honey over till it glazed to a lustrous perfection, and then presented it to Apollo!
Very nice Bloozcat. Tell me about the wood on that body? I like the pickguard. I ALMOST went with a pickguard like that on my build and chickened out. After I put the big scratch in my plain black when drilling for the toggle switch, I might have to replace it. Looks really good.
bloozcat...WOW!
I love it!
That is the prettiest nat-strat I've ever seen.
What kind of wood is that body?
It's so swirly...
And the pickguard is the ultimate for it.
Where did you find it?
It's a multi-piece, straight grained Koa body, with a highly figured, bookmatched Koa laminate top. I got the body from Warmoth's "Thrift Shop" (now called the Showcase, I believe) a few years ago. I picked the black pearloid pickguard to accentuate the black grain in the wood, and to offer a rich looking contrast with the gold hardware and the abalone topped gold knobs.
I have to give Warmoth a lot of the credit here. They're the ones who picked out the wood and created a body from it. It's a little like decorating a house; someone else makes the items and you pick them out and match them up into something that hopefully, looks great together in the end. I did finish the body and neck in clear nitrocellulose lacquer, which really does enhance the beauty of the wood.
My 58 Reissue Into my fulltone pedals & then my marshall's.
All In one,my #1
Oh the tone
What pups do you have in your R8? One Zebra and one double cream looks cool! My R8 is the same finish, but I still have the stock Burstbuckers. I keep meaning to switch them out for something more PAF sounding, but I haven't decided what yet.
Better shot of my Cunetto relic:
Tone is in the fingers, eh? Let's hear your Vox, Marshall and Fender fingerings then...
I've one of these pics on another post, but as this is my only strat it can come here. It's a 83 jv,vintage 62 spec, three way switch, trussrod adjusted at the body end of the neck,no skunk stripe, usa pickups as standard .Great feel and tone.l

My 3-burst '63
[QUOTE=Conrad;484009]My 3-burst '63
Thats a beaut. Love it.
'63 with a 22 fret neck...hmm...
And two string trees. but i still like it.
My new #1, a 1965 Strat:
The decal on the 63 is not from 63 (that transitional decal starts @ 1965). Is the neck original to the guitar?
This is our favorite Fender Axe...

They didnt start using 22 fret necks until the 80's. as stated before, the decal is the transitional decal which they started using in late '64-'65.

The neck is not original to the guitar.

My Strat Ultra
Someone likes David Gilmour...
Hey JT, what tuning keys did you use? Is that a standard Strat neck?
Not just #1, but the only (for now, anyways).
MIM Strat and a Blues Jr.
Here's my #1, 1987 61 LP/SG reissue
My old #1 before I got the SG, older Jeff Beck neck (very fat) on am standard body with Lindy Fralin hot blues pickups
& my other strat, 1965 Jazzmaster neck w Sherwood green head on a matching squier body with 2 SRVs & a custom custom pickup
Nice trio there. What's the story with the fretboard on that black Strat?

Right now its down to these two, a new G&L Legacy Tribute. Aside from graph tech saddles, string tree and having the neck set for 11's its stock. On the right a new MIM Standard strat 5 springs, 11's graph tech string tree and vintage hot noiseless. sorry abut the crappy pics
DJinn, the strat on the right is a mirror image of what mine looks like. what year is yours?
Have you ever watched Cheach & Chong's next movie? Look at Chong's tele, it has model transfer tape for doing the chrome trim on model cars on the neck. I went one better & I use the chrome duct tape that heating guys use when they do ducting. It lasts longer & to me it helps make my strat look like a six string Harley.
Heh. That's wild. Does it hold up well under playing?

The heavier tape has lasted over 2 years now, the transfer tape would rip as soon as you would dig in so I would have to change it after every gig. You can also see the wood grain in the tape.
My KOA Strat, it has a bright Island style personality Roll one up!

leseattlepaul, that sure is purdy. is it a solid koa body or veneer?
It's byootiful. Judging from the back, looks like it's solid Koa. Is the neck Koa, too?
And can that island guitar play "the Reggie music"?
