Wave Invasion gig report Covina, Ca.

Wave Invasion played a new venue on Friday night in Covina, Ca. It was a another southern California Craft's Fair type event with all sorts of artists selling their creations accompanied by the usual food vendors. We had a lot of fun and drew a pretty good crowd. There were people setting up chairs to watch as we set up our equipment and most of them didn't leave until we were leaving. I saw some people show up and then disappear only to return with folding chairs from home. One of the vendors told us we drew the biggest crowd they've had and they were amazed to see that the crowd stayed all night because the normal thing has been for them to show up for a song or two and then leave. With the audience staying all night it worked out great for the food vendors because people hang out and buy food and snacks all night so they were loving it. We heard from someone that a few businesses down the street opened their front doors so they could hear us. The crowd was happening so instead of taking a break after 45 minutes we decided to play through our break to keep them in their seats and they all stayed. The first set turned out to be an hour and a half long and nobody was leaving. We did our bit with the kids and the air guitars and the parents loved it. I had an older gentleman come up to me as we took our break to tell me how much he enjoyed our show and that how great it was that we invited the kids up. He also complimented us on our matching shirts and said we looked like pros and made a great impression. There was a youngster about 2 to 3 years old who started playing in front of us during the second set and pretty much was in view the whole second half of our show. At the end of the night his grandfather came up and thanked us for being so nice to him. He said his grandson had a brain tumor but it was operated on when he was still an infant and he really enjoyed watching the boy get into the music. One sort of weird thing was that there was some kind of police activity down the street from the park which we didn't know about but it played in well with our set. As we were playing the intro to "Suicide is Painless" (The MASH theme) a police helicopter started flying overhead which came across like the intro to the TV show. The timing was perfect. The crowd thought that was pretty cool so I wonder how we can get them to show up at our next gig. The Vendors were happy the promoters were happy and the good vibes from the crowd carried into the weekend for us.

    Here's a few pics.
