I don't own one, but I have played several. I like them a lot. The pickups sound great, and the neck and radius feel great too! I don't have much use forthe trem, but I am sure many do. Excellent value in my opinion.

There are 2 versions one with CS 69's and Steel saddles and steel block and the newer ones with CS designed 69's not real CS 69's and Stamped steel saddles with a zinc block.

The 1st run was really good the other ones with the zinc block arent as good.

I've got one and really like it. It's not as nice as my SRV but for less than half the price I think it's the best deal on the market.

I sure like mine. '06 with CS69s and a steel block and steel saddles. The 12" neck radius allows easy chording for my fat old fingers.
    Yummy.
Happy New Guitar Day to ya.

I never realized that it had a 2 point trem. Anyone know why they did that?

I've played a few recent ones and wanted to love them, but came away with a "meh." One of them sounded pretty good, but the saddles were dropped all the way to the bridge on the E strings, and the action was still higher than I'd like.

I believe that idea was to blend the look of a classic Strat with the conveniences of a modern one. From a glance, it looks like a 60's Strat, but the flatter radius is easier for bending and the two point trem makes it more useable.

The verdict seems to be that good players make them sound good.

I don't know why they did it, but it's a deal breaker for me. Maybe they are more convenient and flexible to set up. That's all.

I just don't like them. For me, they are tone/feel suckers.

Re: verdict on current 60's classic player strats???

    hey all,

well it arrived yesterday, once I put some new strings on it and polished it up a bit, plugged it in and really dug what I was hearing! Put my highway 1 to shame really. Quality pickups really do make a big difference.

My first rosewood fingerboard too and it felt really comfortable, with a beautifully glossy maple neck.

Funny, even though I just bought it, the serial number is from 2006, but i believe that was a good year anyways so I wont freak out about that. Although you could tell the strings were from 2006!

Jammed with the band last night and was really happy with the tone coming through the ac30. Stays in tune really well too.

And to look at well.....I'll get some picks up. Anyways take it easy and a big thumbs up to Fender for this product. Later guys.

I believe the two-point trem is the first time they ever put one on that was not a Custom Classic. Apparently a plus the the guitar - at least in Fender's eyes. I must say I like the feel of it alot more than my buds MIM Strat Trem.

well, we already talked about that earlier in this thread, and there is disagreement about whether they are any good or make any difference.

    Personally, I hate 'em.

Here's my 60 strat. Count the screws:

That WAS my comment/question from earlier in the thread. I am confiused why its being brought up/quoted now again...

My question was only driven by the name of the guitar which is why I thought the choice of trem was odd.

What years did they make the ones with the CS pups and steel block?

Re: verdict on current 60's classic player strats???

    Gentlemen:

I picked this honey up last summer for $350.00 at the local GC.

Since then, I've done the following: Replaced the body with a USA Custom body done in thin nitro. Had the headstock painted. Aged all parts and light relicing. Finally,I installed a pickguard shield for shielding purposes.

All work done by Lay's Guitar Repair in Akron, Ohio.

I have tried for 10 years to find a usuable Strat and now I finally have one for a mere pittance of what a CS job would cost. This baby looks AWESOME, plays great and sounds so sweet. As far as Strats go, without owning a PRE CBS 60's something, I can die in peace.

As far as I can tell, this is one of the early models; it has AY on the 69 CS pickups and the block is steel. The thin nitro really allows the body to resonate; Dan at Lay's said it was one of the best resonating bodies he had heard in a long time.

SOOOO... at the end of the day, it's just what I was looking for.

IMHO, these guitars are an excellent bang for the buck.

I have a 2006 CP 60s strat. It's okay for a MIM strat but I think you'd be better of spending a bit more for an American strat. The MIM strats seem to use cheaper hardware/electronics and the build quality varies alot in IMHO.

There isnt any cheap hardware in the 1st ruin of these which you probably have. The CS69's are the same ones used in the Custom Shop 69 Strats and the bridge is the same as the Custom Shop custom classic.

If you dont like it all it needs is a good setup.

I came real close to getting one when I was Strat-shopping. I found a floor model at GC that was marked down pretty good becasue of a chip in the finish, but I ended up getting a really nice natural Ash MIM strat and a set of 69 CS pickups for less money. I thought tthey were a really nice guitar.
