Recommend me an inexpensive 5 stringer

I been wanting to noodle around on a 5 banger and was wondering what basses are the best bang for the buck. I'm looking for something inexpensive so that way if I decide I'm not a 5 string person, I won't be out alot of money. Any suggestions?

I don't subscribe to the 'best' of anything theories, but if you'd like a decent 5 stringer which won't break the bank, the Squier Protone is a good start.

However some people find it too wide in the neck - I do, as I only have 3 useable fingers on my fretting hand.

The finish is very good and the overall sound is fine in my opinion.

    I'm in the same boat

I've also been looking at some 5 string basses to noodle around on, and maybe pursue as a giggable sideline job one of these days.
The Squier caught my eye as well. I saw one hanging in the store for $200. I'm *real close* to jumping on it, but I've only begun to start shopping around for one. This one sounded pretty good, and I think it will do all I want a bass to do.

Not sure how you define inexpensive, but closely in the running with the Am Std J-V I bought a couple years ago was Ibanez' SR405 5-string. Great tone and it's under 500 bucks new. There are probably a ton of them out there used for half that. Try it new anywhere and then check out Ebay if you like it.

I have nothing but praise for the Yamaha BB series. Cheap and real good quality. The B string is pretty smooth...

I'm no 5 stringer, but I liked what I heard. The BB series has a real nice neck to them. And decent pups.
