I just love old analogue gear. I dont know why, I never use it. They make great paperweights!

That Nak cassette deck is the cat's PJ's. I had one of those 4-track Teacs back in '79, too. Don't know what the heck I'd do with it now.

Last week I could have bought an 8-track Fostex (8 tracks on 1/4" tape!!) that only got used for about 50 hours before going back in the box... $200. I passed because the machine isn't worth as much as the time it would take to get it integrated into my stuff.

I haven't powered on my Sony R700 DAT machine in over a year.

That's the model that was hobbled by the RIAA, right?

I have an 80's Tascam Porta 04 4-track casstette recorder somewhere. With the manual!
I'd bet it has maybe 20 hours use on it.

    Very hissy.

I never accomplished much with it.

I bet now, with some of the direct gadgets I have I could get some decent sounds into it at least.

I've got an extremely dusty Tascam portastudio (424-II?) in my basement.

Never did much with that either.

    Great thread!
I still have a Teac 3340 with seperate Dolby NR units.....I also bought a Yamaha 4 track cassette machine (3 3/4 speed only) for $50 brand new a few years back....I use it as a mic preamp for a stand alone cassette recorder to record students!
I might try doing my drum tacks on the cassette first to warm them up.

Re: Some of my analogue gear

    I have this:

    http://imageigloo.com/images/7993IMG_0655.JPG

    It's a ca. 1976 Dokorder 1140 4-track, 1/4" tape.

It sounds surprisingly awesome. I recorded a bunch of stuff on it solo and with my band at the time when I first got it. Too bad Radio Shack doesn't carry R2R tape anymore like they did then, but I found a great source for it online.

It's got some kind of problem now though...it plays backwards. Rewind and FF are the right direction, but play goes backwards. It also doesn't record anymore. This all happened at once after my parents got the house fumigated (it was covered). Don't ask me what that could possibly have to do with it.

I got a service manual for it and think I've found how to solve the problem but I don't have the necessary electro-magnetic flux capacitance sin-wave modifier scope tool. Still working on that.

    Cool stuff BTW jerry.
