    Anyone have a Kinman HX-85 ?? (Strat)

I'm dying to know what you think of it,
In the bridge of your Strat
esp. with overdriven tones and rock n roll chords !

    THANKS

Sounds like a fat and hot single coil. Its not a humbucker or P90 replacement.
It does exactly what Kinman says it does.
I can nail some Deep Purple type of distortion with this pup.

This is my absolute favourite. No one who's heard it live knows what to make of it. They don't know why there's such a hot tone coming from a single coil that doesn't sound like a humbucker, not a P90, yet it's that powerful. It's bright, fat and highly reactive to whatever you put through it.

This is always kept as my secret weapon... Whever I want a searing tone which punches thru any mix, and still sounds "traditional" and not modern, I use this. I also use it for metal... Heheh...

I personally feel it's pretty close to a P90, but not quite the same.

Think of Petrucci paired with EJ on steroids...

    wait,
    Demioblue,

had you ever tried an SD Lil 59 in your Strat bridge? I have one and took it out a long time ago (different tastes),,
Now I'm wondering, output -wise, how the HX-85 compares to the LIL 59?.
    Thanks

I've tried the 59 before, but not in my own guitar. It was in a friend's MIM strat which had a DiMarzio something in the neck, a Kinman in the middle, and a 59 in the bridge. It's (59) good. That much I'll give, but it didn't seem to roll off as nice on the volume as the HX85 did. Then again, I'm not sure what my friend may have done to his pots, cos that might affect it. But in terms of output? HX85 seems wilder. The 59 felt a bit more tame.

Then again, it was a while since I've heard the 59, so my memory might not be that accurate. That's what I could recall though.

But from what I can recall, the Lil Screamin' Demon is closer to the HX95, except that the 85 seems more mature.

But if you want something hot, why not the JB Jr?
