Help With Fender Pickup

Hello, I just purchased a beautiful vintage Fender Bass. I need a pickup for it and to know about the original one that would have come with it. It's a '78 Musicmaster bass but it has a vintage strat staggered pole pickup installed. This cannot be original right? I keep seeing things on the net that conflict with what I would believe so I figured I'd come to the place that would know. What is the original type of pickup a '78 Musicmaster should have and does anyone know where I could find one (except the 'Bay ).

look for a pickup out of a mustang or musicmaster. it will be flat pole 6 magnet pup, like what you have sort of. it should have a grey bottom also, read in the 6.5k range or so IARC. i have a 78 also, in black though. mine now sports a lawrence pup, it now sounds really good. the original pup i used in the middle position of my joe perry strat i built a couple years ago, it was awesome in that setting.
