Did Any Model Strats Ever Have Fat Necks?

The American Standard Strats I own have great necks but I really wouldn't mind one with a "fat" maple neck. It's probably from playing a Les Paul exclusively for the past 3 decades ... but when playing my Strats, I've noticed my hand starts to cramp up very quickly.

Is/was there a non-vintage, "fat maple neck" model Strat ever made??

The first-gen Jeff Beck models had HUGE necks.

If I could obtain a fatter neck, is it possible to just remove the current neck and replace it with the fatter one??

The CS Time Machine '56 Strat has the '10/56 neck', which is a handful, and the CS have also recently done a short run of 'No-neck' Strats, based on a 50s Strat with a Nocaster profile neck. Otherwise the Jeff Beck Strat, or the MIM Classic series 50s Strat which has a meatier neck.

You could put a Baja Tele neck on one!
...and on the 8th day, God created the Super Reverb and there was ROCK, and it was GOOD!

I just bought a 56 time machine with a boat neck but it has a very narrow nut.

Similiar to a U neck from the 70s and not too far from most 50 classics I own.I would not necessarily call it fat

My JJ hellecaster has a wider C neck from the 60's

I've got an '86 Strat Plus that has a pretty hefty C neck on it. It's not the size of a Jeff Beck neck, but I figure there were only so many telephone poles Fender could saw down without Ma Bell noticing...

The Jimmy Vaughan strat has a pretty fat neck, not as fat as the Jeff Beck model, especially the early production models.

I'm always searching for comfortable fat necks on strats. If you want the perfect, most comfortable fat neck, check out the one on the Vintage Hot Rod '62 Strat. More comfortable than the SRV or JM necks IMO. Radius is 9.5. Another great fatty is the one on the Eric Johnson strat, but the radius is 12--a matter of taste.

Be careful, if you get interested in Beck necks though.
The newer ones have a different mounting hole pattern and plate, to mate with the contoured heel on the newer Beck bodies.

Warmoth makes the 'Fatback' profile, it is obscenely big. 1" front to back at the nut; no real taper. I have one on my Tele and it is definitely a handful! Kind of like going out with a young lady with really large...well you know what I mean.

Their '59 Roundback' profile is just a comfortable big neck with nice taper to the nut. Very easy to play and doesn't make you wanting for more.

The '54 Strat is most likely the fattest of them all.
USACG is a good bet for aftermarket choices.

My MIJ "50's Reissue" has a great maple fatty with the v-neck taper at the nut - true to the late 50's vintage. It's like a vertically sawed-off baseball bat. I personally bought the guitar for the neck. It just suited me better. Try one out, I think you'll be happy.

If I'm not mistaken, the early Jeff Beck signature guitars had the same dimensions as Warmoth's "Fatback:" a U-shape 1" thick the entire length of the neck.

62 HOT ROD RI strat is very meaty as well. Does anyone know if they did the same with the 57HR?

If you want a seriously large maple strat neck, try to find a "Ballpark" neck. A batch of these were made a few years ago for Elliot Mechanic.

They measure @ 1 13/16" wide at the nut, and are quite deep as well, with a boatneck profile. Just plain big, as Letterman used to say.

Recently missed out on an EJ body with one of these Mechanic necks cause I saw the ad too late.

If I saw one again I would jump at it.

I own four 1954 Fender Custom Shop Strats and those necks are nowhere near as fat as the Beck or Vaughan necks.

This one is a monster. I couldn't play it. (guess my hands are too small). I'm glad my wife picked the 57 to buy for me rather than this... heheheh...

Nope... I just got the 57 HR... the neck is almost paper thin. It meashers 19mm at the 1st fret. the taler only varies 1mm throughout the entire neck. It's thin, and the V is less pronounced.
