    DRRI vs HRDX

I have seen a lot of discussion on this forum touting the DRRI and a lot slamming the HRDX. I have an HRDX. I haven't had any problems with it and really like the sound, but it is a bit much for my bedroom. It gets harsh pretty quick when the volume get above, oh 2 or 3. I would appreciate if someone would do a quick compare and contrast. I've been thinking lately about trying the DRRI, as it is 22W vs. 40W. What's the upside and downside? Thanks.

Both are way too much for a bedroom.

If you want something for the bedroom. Get something with a headphone jack.

I'd suggest doing a thorough search of the Amp section here. This thread, in fact, with nearly this exact title, is repeated several times.

The upside is that they are both too much for the bedroom.
The downside is that they are both too much for the bedroom.
Hope this clears things up for you.
Need an around the house practice amp? Try a Champ w/a peddle or two.

Change the speaker and the tubes and you can play at bedroom levels. The tubes will smooth out the harshness and the speaker will remove the mud and flabbiness. If you put a 100w speaker, the amp has to push harder to open up the speaker and now you can play at 1 without blowing your doors.

    uh... no.

IF (big if) the speaker is rated with a poor EFFICIENCY you can lower the volume/watts of the amp. Higher power handling speakers are not automatically less efficient. Even if a speaker is less efficient, it's usually only rated a few dB lower than a good speaker.

Plus, with no power tube clipping and no speaker breakup, we've pretty much negated the bennies of a tube amp. At that point and low output a solid state would perform much better.
