    5f1 center tap or not?

    Hi,
Any reason not to use a PT with a center tap on a 5f1? Is this simply for hum or is there any difference in the voltage delivered to the fils? Any difference in CT vs 100ohm resistor method?

Mercury Mag sells the PT both ways.

    Thanks.

Using the 100ohm reistors has less hum.

    Center tap is "vintage correct."

    What's more important to you?

You can get one with a center tap, and just tape it off, if you sell it to somebody who's anal about that stuff, they can just connect it, and remove the resistors.

    Thanks Kap'n.

I don't care at all about vintage correct, I just want it to work the best. I'll get the center tap, tape it off and use the resistor.

From what I've read useing the 2 100ohm resistor also offers some protection for you PT (i.e.) The resistors will fry B4 the PT. I'm building a 5F2-A right now... Think I'm gonna go with the resistors.
