    Not sure what to do

Ok, I'm typically not a blog-type poster, but this one has me a little weeniefide.

About 6 or 7 years ago my son wanted to learn guitar. We shopped around and ended up doing a custom refinish to this '93 MIM Duo-Sonic. He really never got into it, and has decided he wants to sell it. Besides which, it's a little small for him now anyway with the 22.5" scale.

But I'm torn. I see no need to have it around, but there's a bit of sentimental fool in me that says to keep it. I don't think it's worth any more than $175-200 at best, and it almost feels like at some point, he may want it, maybe to give to one of his kids or something.

Yeah, I know. Weenie-boy. What do you guys think?

Re: Not sure what to do

Definitely keep it. To rationalise this (if you must), you can argue that for the money you'd raise, you'll be out out in the time required to find a small instrument of similar quality again, if you can.

You never know. As you say, maybe the grandkids will think it's the sland.

I was in a similar situation when I bought my son a little Johnson guitar when he was about 7 or 8 -- he never played it, but his younger sister now does.

Blog note: My son's now a _bassist_ in a high school rock band. Where did I go wrong?

    I'd keep it. It's a beauty.

put it under the bed, trust me, the sentimental value is worth WAY more than money.

For me, the "money" would not be too big of deal right now, so I'd keep it. The guitars I've sold were pretty good dollar and I needed the money at that moment more than I needed the guitar being sold. My more "intro" equipment has gone to elementary and junior high schools where teachers were introducing guitar as well as horns, drums, etc. as we don't have any kids. You might consider this as an option if you do decide to part - plus you can take a tax deduction for the market value of the gift.

Another vote to keep it (Now there's a surprise). You'll never get that much out of it anyway right now so just keep it around as a spare or for traveling or camping.

Better to have it take up space than to regret letting it go.

Re: Not sure what to do

has decided he wants to sell it.
If HE wants to sell it, let him. After all, when you start young getting personally attached to everything, you just end up with a house full of stuff you haven't used in years.

If you ever NEED a starter guitar for some reason, buy it when you need it.

You'll have to excuse me. I am going thru all of my personal attachments to guitars trying figure out what to get rid of because I am out of space.

Guitar Mc, I feel the same way. Usually.

Maybe I'll play it at a rehearsal and see if I can justify keeping it....

Re: Not sure what to do

    Please keep it.

Adrian Belew used to travel with Duo Sonics that were tricked out with midi electronics and funky geometric paint jobs. Remember that?

Those are comfy little guitars. Very cool. Just hang onto it. Just seeing one makes me want to look for one on ebay. Keep the guitar !!

Re: Not sure what to do

FUCK TRYING TO JUSTIFY IT. KEEP THE MO-FO.

    Just like the commercial;
    guitar $175.
building it with/for your son as his first guitar, PRICELESS.

And if you think the is gonna sell it, just buy it from him so he can never sell it. ............Then leave it to him in your will.

    remember, it's only money.
    fuck money.
