Need help with MIDI for practice tool

I am looking for a machine to use while I practice the guitar. I have looked at drum machines but dont have the paitence to learn how to program them. If they were preloaded with more songs maybe I would consider one. There are a ton of files on line where other people have already created the wheel.

I am looking for a machine to play these MIDI files. When I play them on my PC they sound awful. I know NOTHING about MIDI. I do know that not all hardware that has midi ins & outs cand decipher and p[lay midi files.

I think you just need a decent sound card. Some cards come with built in MIDI sounds that are quality samples from the instruments rather than using the MS GS wavetable which is crap. It uses the same MIDI info but produces a much higher quality sound.

The Creative cards are good for this.

I also use Sonar 4 to then remove the lead/rhthm guitar parts and just play to a drum/bass/keys backing.
