I need to pick up a thick, swirly, gurgly effect for rythmn stuff. I tried the MXR Phase 100 and found it too subtle. It's not something I'm gonna use much so I don't wanna drop too much. Any recommendations? As always THANKS!

Small stone, it's that simple.
Dunno how expensive they are in the states but over here they're about the same as any other decent pedal (ie. close to the price of the MXR).
Oh, and have you thought about a chorus? I'd say it's a bit more 'gurgly' than a phaser... though this may just be a semantic argument...!
I was going to say a phase 90, but if the phase 100 is not enough for you, then I don't know what to recommend.

I've got a USA EHx Small Stone which is nice and watery. It's got a colour swtich to take you from a thick phaser to a more subtle swirl. It's good value for money too imho.
If you want something less organic, try an old Boss PH-2 Super Phaser. It can sound really harsh and mechanical if you want it to which the Small Stone won't do.
Perhaps look into the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress? I found that it covers pretty much all my "swirly" needs.
EH makes a TON of swirly effects. Something in their lineup is probably what you're looking for.
s'all goof.
I have a humble DOD Stereo Phaser on my pedal Board and I love it. It sounds very rich, deep and it's very tweakable. These are cheap, quiet and very swirly. I like the three controls. The Regen knob is key ( You can tweak the swoosh). I've had MXR Phase 90's and I like this one better.

I have used US made Small Stones for years. They sound great and are reasonably priced. If you get one, have it converted to true bypass.
try the mxr flanger, seriously. i think you'd probably like that better. i haven't played the new reissues, but the og block logo one i had was THE SHIT! and like an idiot i traded it for some strat pups...
"don't worry, i'm a professional!"
yeah, out of all the chorus pedals i've had i kept my old black MXR one...
If you aren't into the MXRs then maybe check out the Boss. I've also had good luck with a Danelectro Pepporoni mini pedal but that's probably too subdued for your needs.

If a MRX phase 100 is too subtle for you.
Look into a Maxon PH350 Rotary Phaser.
It can get some really extreme settings. Not cheap though.
The moogfooger 12 stage phaser can get pretty extreme too. Also very expensive.
On the cheap I agree with the small stone Recommendation.
To me the Boss PH-2 phaser I have sounds like metallic, hollow, thin.
maybe the Ph-3 is better.
Another Vote for the SmallStone.
I'd have to say the Small Stone as well. Though if you want total swirliness then a Electro-Harmonix Polyphase will really do the job... rare as hen's teeth nowadays, though.
