    Pedal steel????

Seems that my overly gracious singer has finally taken me up on the offer of me playing any pedal steel he would buy. It arrived yesterday and I pick it up from practice tomorrow night.
    Here she is:

Anyway, anyone with any pedal steel experience want to share some insight and some pointers to get me up and pickin asap?

    Can I join your band?
I'll play any Vibraphone your singer will buy me.

That's cool, man. I dodn't know jack about pedal steel.
I have dabbled in lap steel. I'd like to get back into it.

You worked that deal w/o having to demonstrate existing expertise?
    Smooth.:yay

Your a lucky man! Don't know what kind of music your playing but Cindy Cashdollar's DVD is terrific for getting started. She covers vocal backing, country and western and swing. I've played Dobro for years but all those pedals and levers scare the hell out of me. Good luck and good pickin...

    Re: Pedal steel????

thanks for the info guys. i had been playing slide guitar and lap steel for the band and must have demonstrated enough proficency for him to pop for the pedal steel. we play 'alt country' music and a pedal steel seems to put just the right touch on the sound. we are trying to go for that ryan adams/neil young/rolling thunder review sound.

Don't get discouraged. It takes a long time to be musical with a steel rod in your hand. It must, anyway. I always give up before I get music. :dead
