I don't know the specifics, but, it does not have the same amount of data storage a DVD has so the resulting picture sound quality is not as good, the few I own look a bit better than a VHS tape, but no where near as good as a DVD.
thanks pal I am trying to buy a vcd of Doyle Bramhall 2, I have never seen him in concert and he never comes to NYC so this is the next best thing lol, thanks again

He is incredible and LOUD .
I saw him open for Clapton a couple of years ago. Great short show that was very intense.

most all home DVD players will play a VCD.
the biggest difference between DVD and VCD is the video compression format and the bitrate. A DVD video is MPEG2, while the VCD uses MPEG1 compression. DVD has a max bitrate around 9MBit with variable bitrate possible, VCD has a fixed bitrate of 1150kbit for video plus 224kbit for audio. DVD allows for subtitles and multiple audio streams muxed into the video etc. etc. Plus, a DVD is a DVD, and a VCD is a "normal" CD.
