    HELP! HOT ROD DEVILLE PROBLEMS

my deville was making a really loud static buzz, and when I put my amp on standby and unpluged the cable, it crackled, which shouldn't happen on standby right? so I ordered 2 new switchcraft inputs and installed them lastnight, and now I have no sound at all. it doesn't seem to be a dopey overlooked mistake either. the ground off the pcb is hooked up, I'm getting good ohm readings from my inputs. This is my first experience inside of an amp, but I'm not totally incompetent, just stumped.

I take it you tried a different cable?

I found with switchcraft jacks, one brand of cable I got from GC, it won't make contact when you push it all the way in.. I just bent the contact on the jack so it worked.

I've only replaced the jack on gutiars, but I've had that problem.

Re: HELP! HOT ROD DEVILLE PROBLEMS

i've tried 3 different cables, I can see they are making contact, because the PCB is still out of the chassis. I've been to Justin Holton's site already, thats were I got the idea to stick the new jacks in there. I should also note that when I stick the cable in the power amp in jack, I don't get any sound there either. could this possibly be one of those 85k plate resistors?

I've decided I need to replace my plate resistors. Is there any reason that I can't go and buy these at Radio Shack, or do I neeed to buy them an amp supply store?

If you take a signal out of the preamp out into another amp do you get sound? At least you can narrow down whether the fault is in the phase inverter/ power amp section or preamp section. Dont work on your amp if you're in a panic, there's just too high voltages around. (dont ask how I know...)
