Did a session at "The Recording Workshop" last night, which is a 6-studio megaplex in Chillicothe Ohio that is a stand-alone recording school, as well as accredited through a few Ohio colleges.
My bandmates have a pal who is a teacher there, so we get called to do sessions once every few months. We go and record anything we want for free (because the students do the tracking), then our buddy mixes it for us for free.
Last night we did "Oye Como Va" with two drummers, a percussionist, bass, keys, and me--it was a blast. The best part (for me and my moderately advanced years) was that despite the fact that the studio we were in had a complete 32-track ProTools HD system and a Mackie HDR system, we wound up recording to the 24-track, 2 inch Studer tape machine, because these particular students were learning about "vintage" gear.
It was a blast. I'll try to share some audio whenever I get the mix back and check into licensing, etc.
BTW--took the Lester (duh) and the new Tele. Wound up using the Tele for all three guitar tracks I did. The engineer said, "It just sounds so much more alive than the Les Paul."
Sorry Carlos.
Sure was great to use the tape though. I love the smell of Ampex 456 in the evening. :)
