    strat necks...are they interchangable?

can someone give me a quick overview of the compatibility of different neck and bodies.

do different strat models have different size neck pockets?

I currently have a japanese 62 reissue and love the neck and was thinking about getting a similiar neck for my 1990 usa strat plus.

will it fit... or do I need to get a USA 62 reissue neck... or will a 62 reissue neck never fit a modern usa strat?

It should bolt right up. I've never had a problem w/any Fender Strat necks, & I've had plenty from a lot of years. The only obvious issue I can think of would be the three-bolters.
I don't know about Squiers & such, though.

They'll all fit. I've swapped out many a neck in my time.

They all fit as far as size neck pocket fit etc but I like tio keep 21 fret necks on bodies that use that neck and on 22 fret necks put them on the body they were ment for.

I would also imagine the American Deluxes, with their non-standard neckplate, would not be interchangeable without drilling.

alright, I did not feel like taking my japanese 62 reissue apart so a friend loaned me a japanese 62 neck and it did not fit. is this an anomaly or is this an problem of mixing usa and japanese parts??

Do you have any pics we could see? Was the pocket too small or too big?

I've used Am. necks on Japanese and Mexican Strats. When did they start using different sized necks? Oh, and what exactly is different about the American Deluxe neckplate that would require drilling?

It's cut-away on the treble side, so the screws form a trapezoid, rather than a rectangle.

I never knew that, thanks Kap'n! That's a recent change isn't it? It's been 3 or 4 years since I 've played a new Deluxe and I didn't remember that.

Dang. This is news to me. I'm guessing that changes have been made, because I've put MIJ necks on USA bodies & vice versa (RI models). Want me to see if my 3/61 neck fits on my 2000 MIM '60s?

I've not actually seen one, since noiseless pickups don't interest me. The neckplate has been prominently featured in ads for the 50th Ann Am Deluxe guitar.

a friend tried to put a MIJ 62ri neck on an american strat, the base of the neck was too wide to fit in the pocket. the body was recent, and i don't know the vintage of the neck.

If the body is designed for the tilt neck adjustment the MIJ necks wont fit those cause they are all made Vintage style. But the Vintage style MIJ necks will fit any Vintage style body that I have seen.

    Re: strat necks...are they interchangable?

the japaneses neck was about 3/32 of an inch wider than the 1990 usa strat plus neck pocket. it also looked like the forward edge closest to the neck pickup was shaped a little different than the leading edge of the neck. hard to say since it would not fit into the pocket.

what is everyones best advice on getting a fatter neck for the usa strat plus??? or is it easier to get a body to match the fatter japanese neck??

have you checked the fender replacement necks? they make a 62 with rw, and a 57 maple board. they're nice necks.

But the question is.... will a usa reissue neck fit on a modern style usa strat body??? I'm not sure if we have answered this question.

That is something I had tossed around as I have a thin 22 fret strat neck that I like that I thought about trying out on my Tele Custom guitar that was meant to have a 21 fret neck.

At least now I know it would most likely fit but it only would look odd.
