Re: traded for one of the masterbuilt 54's

That's FUNNY! They're getting almost $4000 for that guitar and a $600 '54RI from Fender Japan can get the headstock right.

Not to mention the body, neck and fretboard.

I'm sure it's a great guitar and it's great that you love it, but geez, for four grand you'd think they'd get it right.

Re: traded for one of the masterbuilt 54's

    ok, i'll try....

i THINK lasher traded for a MB`54 USA, and was/is thrilled....

then pbradt was commenting how "a $600 '54RI from Fender Japan can get the headstock right. Not to mention the body, neck and fretboard. "

which leads me to assume that the MB`54 was not an accurate copy, and pb, with his endless amount of tact (and patriotism):lol , informed lasher of this fact.

which also leads me to believe that lasher came in and edited his post

    lol....it's just a guitar!
    now kiss and make up.
....wait, let me get my camcorder...

Re: traded for one of the masterbuilt 54's

it's a great guitar. very accurate. i doubt there is any 54 replica out there that nails the 54 headstock. that's the only year they were longer and more narrow looking. jim shine will be thrilled to know they've got the pot controls correct, and the pickup covers as well. i've never owned a master built guitar, and usually tweak and fuck with one forever....this one doesn't need any tweaking. and i think the builder put slightly fatter frets on it...that's a good thing...the vibrato you get out of it is much better. again, inaccurate, but a definite plus

thrilled? no. it's one of the finer strats i've had the pleasure of having, and i had serial # 0727 up until 3 months ago. it's amazing how much of the fdp mentality about slamming gear has migrated here. it's just plain (fill in the blanks)....never having anything good to say must mean a miserable existence.

I've seen the pics and it is a very very nice git-fiddle. I cannot understand how anybody can comment on it when they haven't played it.

Re: traded for one of the masterbuilt 54's

If it plays great...enjoy it. Give the masterbuilder shit for not knowing how to accurately reproduce and '54 headstock and still ask stupid money for it, but what's the big deal? If it's a better than average guitar that's found on any rack, is that not a good thing? :)

But yeah, for that kind of $$...I'd at least let the builder know that he didn't nail it. Give him shit Lasher...but it's hardly worth whining about.

Re: traded for one of the masterbuilt 54's

i'm certainly not whining about it. he got it very close, and i know because i had an original one until just a few months ago. and i don't have near that dollar number in it, i'm into it right around cost. in other words just a bit more than a relic or closet classic.

Were you expecting the headstock to be closer to original that what it turned out to be?

Re: traded for one of the masterbuilt 54's

i wasn't expecting anything. i just went to visit a dealer friend in colorado, he had it, it blew me away, we did a deal. i was only reporting what i found with it. i did not expect it to be as accurate as it is, i did not expect it to be the lightest strat i've ever picked up, i didn't expect it to play and sound as good as it does. those are all plus factors. i've never had a master built strat,,,even tho they are just bolt together guitars, the master builds are a cut above. whether they are worth what they sell them for is in the opinion of the owner. :rl in fact, i'll probably off my other strats,,,this one fills the ticket. for me anyway.

    And that's all that matters.

Very cool - thanks for sharing.

The MIJ & CIJ guitars may be great, but they can't get the FINISH right. I hate poly.

If it's that good...good enough for you to sell other Strats you own, then it's a great guitar. Glad you found it :)

Judging from the pics on e-bay, that's a one piece Ash body.

no, you can see the seam. they match them very well, but the seam is there. i couldn't find the seam on mine until i took photographs. my original 54 was a 3 piece body....the lower horn, and below the jack cup, about 1" wide, were added, the dark portion of the burst covered that area. but,,,they make the seam down on the lower bout, the controls and pickguard cover it well on the top, if you look at the back closely, you can see it.

You're absolutely right lasher. I enlarged the pic and yeap, it's a 2 piece alright. The seam's not center jointed. Good call:)

well, i have to admit i read it on the fender web site, and was flummoxed cause i couldn't find it on my guitar...but once i photographed the guitar the seam became visible.
