    pre amp tubes

    what pre amp tubes would you suggest to buy for a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe? i never really use the distortion channel but if there are any to make it better i am up to try it what woudl you reccomend? thanks

    Check out my thread Taming my Deville in the amp section.It explains the varying preamp tubes.There is also a url for a great website where I got all my info from.
    Personally Ive tried lots of combos but I've settled on 12AU7A's in V1(Clean Channel) and V2(Drive Channel) and 12AT7's in the Phase inverter V3(the one nearest the output valves)
    The 12AU7A's are Sylvania NOS and the 12AT7 is Mesa-Boogie.

    I put Sovtek 5751 in the preamp section and a Electro-Harmonix 12AT7 in the reverb driver. This along with retubing the power tubes with Svetlana 6L6GC and changing the speaker to a Reverend Alltone speaker. The amp is more musical to my ears now. It really made the amp more smoother sounding, not as brittle.

    I put 12AT7s across the board (3). Really tamed the gain. Nice and even now from 1 to 12.
