I don't know the circuit, but removing -fb loops add more distortion and noise.
My guess is somebody thought it should be there, because it sounded better with it.

Negative feedback is another term for drive. more negative feedback = more amplification.
I don't know your amp but if it a valve amp then leave it alone, because a valve amp is something of a balancing act of high voltages and they tend to blow up if you mess with the balance.
The same is largly true for transistor amps, at best if you disconnect your negative you will reduce the volume output possably to nothing (next door might like this), worst case the thing will blow up and cost big bucks to fix.
