American Tele vs. Hwy 1 Tele

I was wondering if anyone is knowledgeable on the real differences between the American Tele and Hwy 1 Tele that Fender is selling. From what I've seen the American costs about 50% more than the Hwy 1, but I'm trying to understand if there are any differences of real substance (e.g. where quality is noticeably different and where there might be increased costs down the road). Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Seems like it's an American body and neck with Mexican pickups and hardware with a much less expensive thin, dull finish. Kind of like a stripped down MIA for those who resist buying a MIM.

Thats exactly what it is. The HWY1 series was designed for people who just cant stand to own something with a made in mexico decal on it. It features all the same parts as the MIM models same pickups hardware everything but the body and neck is MIM.
