    NJ/PA Jam SIGN UP

If enough people are interested this can happen in the early spring....but before the search for a jam location can start, some sense about how many might come is important to know.

    So?????

hey tbb, we'll ride down together in the Volvo scenic cruiser. It's a comfy ride.

FenderBoy, if I may be so bold. I would suggest you pick a date and a venue and then throw it up here. There are too many "unknowns" and people don't know what they're signing on for. It was different at the other place where everyone knew our jams to always be of "epic proportions". The new folks here don't know that yet.

What would happen at this jam?

Is it in a public venue, or a private location?

Will there be swag? Food? Amps? Drum kits? PA?

Depending on date and time, I would be happy to drive a few hours if you guys could find some use for a bass player.

Heck, might even be able to cart along my drummer as well. Would need hard and fast details for him, he's A LOT busier than me.

You'll have to excuse FenderBoy. He's having a "senior moment" here.

Don't ya just hate guys that start a thread and then abandon it?

I say we start calling him names and show him that just because he started a thread and abandoned it, doesn't mean we will!

Maybe he's waiting for a bigger response, dunno.

I've been reading about these gatherings for years now, and wondering how they generally work. We talking performances in public venues, mostly, or rented rooms/peoples home's, etc.? Do people party at these things? How casual is it?

I never felt confident enough in my skills to try to attend such a gathering, which no doubt would attract some pretty hot players. But nearly a year of hosting open mics with the band has really developed my 'seat-of-the-pants' skills, so to speak, and I think now something like this might be fun. Hell, just to see all the gear would be fun. :tw59

Anyway, here's hoping something comes of this. I doubt one will ever happen closer to me, here in the central Pa. hinterlands.

stonetone, you've come to the right place. I have hosted 8 of these jams up here in Connecticut and jammed with people from this and another forum in 14 states over the past two years.

When I host a jam, I do it at a band rehearsal studio which has 3 completely equipped rooms for your jamming pleasure. There is a social area, food, swag, and the newbies are well taken care of. It's a very supportive environment for first time jammers as well as the hot shoes that come out to strut their stuff.

People have traveled several hours for to attend these jams. I have driven as much as 6 hours one way, and had people attend my jams in Connecticut who drove in from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusettes, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Hell, I just flew out to Sacramento for the sole purpose of attending a jam. (well, I did want to meet my homies SacBlues and AnnieD in person too, but....)

I have also attended several of these jams that were held at a public venue. Sometimes a dive bar, or nice place, it doesn't really matter. There, the jam is run more like an open mic. Once again, new players are encouraged and put in a "trainwreck-proof" setting where all they need to do is turn down their volume if they get lost. I have seen lots of first-time jammers thrive in this environment. We even heckle eachother sometimes. "Play some Skynard man!" "FREEEEEEEEEEEBIRD!" "OZZY!" It's always a blast.

I have also attended several jams in private homes which is a whole different dynamic and just as much fun.

Wherever the jam takes place, or whatever the circumstances, I have yet to see people walk away who didn't have a good time.

FenderBoy is a skilled veteran with theses affairs so you can look forward to a great time!

Me too, totally... Saturday's are never a problem, so you got yourselves at least one bass player. Talking to my drummer this week about whether he can make it as well.

Thinking we (me and the SO at least) will be looking into rooms for the night, depending on how late these kinda things go. Only potential issue revolves around her dad, who late last week was diagnosed with cancer and is working out his treatment schedule as we speak. Certain family arrangements may preclude my attendence if he happens to actually be in the hospital that weekend, but after talking with her and her mom it's our hope that his treatment will be done or minimized come spring time.

That aside, let me know if you need me to bring my rig, and, in the event the drummer tags along, his kit. I will get an answer from him some time this week and let you know his status.

So stoked, really looking forward to meeting and playing with y'all...

I would like to attend too if dumbasses are allowed. I'll start the process of clearing it with the missus.

If desired, I can check with the keyboardist/flutist/saxomophonist in my band and see if he can make it.

Thanks, Fenderboy, for taking it upon yourself to make arrangements.

Looks like 5 or 6 thinkin' about it....

    That ain't nearly enough...but it's a long way away.
I'll keep checking this thread for additional commits...but I think we need at least a dozen to make ends meet.

Thanks to all that have expressed an interest so far.

I recently learned of this thread via email from a friend "from over there." I just registered here a few minutes ago!

April 3rd would be great for me. I missed the last Philly area jam at Manayunk due to a family commitment.

Put me on the list as definitely interested; I'll play bass. -Stephen

    Enough with the dogpiling already!

The proposed date draws nigh. If I'm reading this correctly there wasn't enough interest to sustain it. Yes?

It's your call to make, Fenderboy, but it seems there's only a couple definite positive responses. Dang!

I'm still in for the 3rd of April.

There's a thread about this jam over at the other forum. Maybe between the two forums, we can get enough players?

Should we revive the thread over there?

If you don't have enough people for to rent the whole rehearsal space, then why not rent just one or two rooms? That could work.

Maybe some other time when I have more time to prepare.
    My most sincere apologies.

Hey, FB. No apologizing necessary, sir. I appreciate that you were handling all the organizing.

Perhaps now I'm forced to travel up to Tele-Bob's thing in CT or wherever. I wonder how I'll swing that with the wife????

Bring her along. The last time some of my fellow TFF'ers were in the neighborhood, they stayed at the local Marriott hotel and we all met for a fine brunch the following morning. Lots of laughs and good times. Lets all do it again after the jam.
